Teething Question - Tampa,FL

My 4 month old has started drooling a lot, is fussy, and refuses to drink her formula. I read that the drooling & fussiness is pretty much normal teething, but haven't heard anyone say about the refusal to drink formula. She starts fussing so much when I try to feed her. She used to drink 6 oz at a time, and now if I'm lucky I can get her to take 3 oz at one feeding. Has anyone else had a problem with feeding during this time? She only drinks about half of what she used to per 24 hr period now. So, I wanted to ask for some advice... Is this normal?

Thank you in advance!

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone who responded to my teething/eating dileamma. She has started to eat a little better now, and the Motrin definitely helped (esp. when sleeping). I did have her ears checked out, and she didn't have an infection. I guess it was just teething. Thank you to you all :-)

It is totally normal. My daughter did the same thing. To help ease her pain, use MOTRIN and maybe try using Grip Water wuth her formula. You can find it at most health food stores.

The same thing happened with my little one. It's not that uncommon for teethers to lose their appetite and refuse to suck. Some babies are just more sensitive and don't want their gums to touch anything. It can be a frustrating time, and you may think she will starve, but chances are, she will be fine. As long as she is not losing weight it's probably ok. If you have any concerns, you can contact your pediatrician or health care provider.

My daughter went through the exact same thing at the same age. I was very worried. But it seemed like one day she simply started eating again. In my case it was short lived, about 2 weeks. Hopefully it's just the same thing.

yes it's normal. the sucking feeling can be painful to the nerves in her gums, however it can also be a sign of ear pain for the same reason. wouldn't be a bad idea to call her pediatrician office and ask them what they think.
