Teething or Growth Spurt?

My 11 month old has been unusually cranky lately and sleeping horrible (after finally sleeping through the night again) He kept grabbing at his ears so I took him to the doctor and she said everything looked fine with his ears and she didn't seen any molars coming through. He usually wakes a couple hours after bedtime, I go in and sit in his rocker and sing until he falls asleep. Then we see him again around 5 and by then I'm so tired I bring him into bed, but he's crazy restless the whole time. Then he turns around and gets up around 6:30. Talk about energy boy.

Anyone have thoughts on to whether this might just be a grown spurt?

What can I do next?

The way to tell if they are about to have a growth spurt is to check their weight. They always eat more and gain weight (getting what my friends and I jokingly called a 'buddha belly') right before a growth spurt. After the growth spurt, they will eat less than usual for a few days before resuming a normal eating pattern and their weight will again balance out too. Sometimes it disrupts their sleeping patterns as well, they will sleep less right before (they are full of energy), but more during and just after a spurt (growing takes energy)....at least that was my experience with it with my kids. Good luck to ya! :)

Could be the beginning of teething even though you can't see anything coming yet. Or could be he's just going thru another development stage where he's having trouble sleeping 'cause he's learning to do new things. When I suspected teething, I'd give my kids 1tsp. of baby (not infant) ibuprofen - they loved the grape flavored kind like candy! - and that would help them sleep sometimes. He'll get thru it soon, no matter what it is, but I know it's terrible to be sleep deprived - hang in there!

this brings back nitemares with my son...holy cow-he screamed all nite every nite for the 1st yr of his life.the neighbors called the police on us many times-thought we were beating him sensless-cops would come in-look at him-hold him-rock him...he just screamed-we put him in the playpen in the living room so our daughter could sleep-then at sun up-he would crash for about 2 hours-and be happy as a clam when got up-no ryme or reason to this bizzare behavior.drs.thought he had something like sleep apnea-kept him for a week...no answers there either...then he hit 2 and slept like a champ-1st nite i freaked out-thought he was dead-nope just finally sleeping...so i have no answers-but good luck to you.

It could be many things.....he could be teething, growing, or just dreaming more.......Do you have a bed routine? If not, try one......maybe read to him or play nice soft music..........maybe he has so much going on in his little head he just can't stop..........

Also, he hears OK, correct?

I would say that if he continues to do it, I would agree, give him a little baby ibuprofen and see if his symptoms go away.....

Hang in there Mom.......also, does he nap? If it's for a long time, cut it back a half an hour and see if that helps.
Good Luck.
