Our poor 6 mo. old has starting teething: waking up in the middle of the night, running a fever, just generally unhappy- and we are contributing it all to teething (he looks like one should be popping out any day now!). We have been giving him motrin, which works great, but I don't want to keep medicating him if i don't have to. Can anyone offer good non-medication solutions to his teething aches? I've done the cool wet rag (for both his head and mouth), ice in cheese cloth, cooled teething rings, etc.. he can't stand having even my finger get CLOSE to his lips :( hence, not feeding very well with solids or bottle/nursing/straw/cup. What can i do to make my baby feel better?? THANKS

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Soooo- my poor poor 6 mo. old son who had a fever, was crying, waking up at night...may have been teething, but according to my ped. (who has a this theory based on research and his experience) ultimately believes babies don't "teeth" with pain (this topic is very controversial among peds). When i took my son in to check for a hearing infection (he had become very sensitive to his one ear), he not only had bilateral ear infections, but a perforated eardrum. Moral of the story: yes, babies can "get better" on their own from certain ailments, but get them checked out anyway to ruleout anything serious. :) Thanks for all your input!!

we've used the teething tabs. also, if he uses a binky, refrigerate it for a while. My daughter loved to chew on papa johns breadsticks that were a day or two old.

have you tried any homeopathics? hyland's teething homeopathic helped my son when he was teething. you can buy it at most regular drug stores. it's completely natural, no side-effects.

We've had issues the last two nights, and I've discovered the wonders of refrigerated sugar snap peas. I hold onto one end but let him chew as much as he wants. It's worked well for us.

They have a homopathic med called teething tablets. All you do is at this age mush it up and rub on gums. It is uppose to work. My son loves the taste to them. It's like sugar. I would try it some babies it works and some it dosen't
