Hyland's Teething Tablets- How Quick?

My 6 month old seems to be teething, complete with discomfort that makes it difficult to breastfeed. So far tylenol seems to be helping, but I do not want to give him too much. I've also tried the Hyland's Teething Tablets, but haven't seem convincing results. For those who have used them, how quickly are the supposed to work? I'm wondering how much time to allow before I determine they aren't working. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I didn't find the teething tablets effective at all. At night we used motrin, it works better for teething than tylenol (helps with the inflammation), and also lasts longer, so everyone can get some rest. During the day, the flavor ice popsicles, when not open, make a great teething toy for little ones without teeth. Once they have teeth you need to watch them closely because they can puncture them, but they are nice and cold and help numb their little gums. Both my kids were happy when allowed to chew on those. When it starts to melt, just rinse it off, dry it, and put it back in the freezer. Also you can try those mesh food nets that they can chew on. They are really meant to allow them to try foods that they aren't ready for yet, but my daughter loved carrots in hers when she was teething, since they stay cold for a long time and are nice and hard and taste good too. Frozen bagels work well too, but you really have to watch them with those since they can break pieces off as they start to melt and choke. Good luck.

Hi A.,

I tried the teething tablets also- sometimes they seemed to work, but I found that freezing waffles and giving them to the baby frozen works really well. Its not too hard, and when it gets soggy it dissolves in their mouth. You can also do wash cloths, or rub his gums gently- sometimes they like that. Good luck!

A.,
They hylands teething tablets are nothing but sugar.
I used to give the kids something hard they could chew on.
Like a stick pretzel that would get soggy, etc. My sitter swore by them, but I did not find them to be effective.

Are you sure it is teething and not an ear infection? I thought my daughter was teething from about 5 months on and she didn't get her 1st tooth until 11 months. She had excessive drooling and we could even see the white teeth under the gum. When she actually got her teeth there was no excess drooling or change in behavior. We just looked one day and they were there. When I thought she was teething I used Motrin instead of Tylenol

Teething tabs really worked for my daughter, but it is all in what your expectations are. The tabs do not numb, or take away the pain- they only relax your child. For my daughter it was more about calming her down. Once I gave her a couple tabs, she would eat, or nurse without pouting and protesting. They would work almost immediately for me.
