Teething Madness-Help!

My sweet daughter has been fussy for a few weeks now, and we can see that the molars are trying to break thru her gums. Last night she started to run fever and was clearly in a lot of pain. We gave her Motrin, and she made it thru the night. The teeth seem to be just breaking the surface of her gums, and she is miserable today - fever and really fussy. She will bite down on anything including Mommy! I have given her Tylenol, and am trying to give her lots of cuddles. Any advice on what else I should be doing? How long does this last?!

What can I do next?

My DD is in the same spot, and LOVES the Hyland's teething tablets that you can get at Walmart. She'll actually go to the drawer where we keep them and point until we get her some. They seem to give her some relief, and I like that they're homeopathic, so I'm not keeping her on drugs all the time. We'll also give her a whole carrot, peeled and washed, to chew on--it's long enough to get back to her molars, but hard and thick enough that she can't bite through it (I'm talking about old-school REAL carrots, like we had when we were kids, not the mini ones you buy in bags now! LOL!) GL!

Hi. I don't know if you know about Humphreys #3 teething pellets but they work great for my daughter when she starts teething. They are homeopathic. I don't know which part of town you're in (some stores are different) but I have found these only at some Walgreen's, not all. You can call and find out if they carry them before spending gas unnecessarily. Give her three pellets at a time.

Hope this helps :)

I went through the same thing two weeks ago. I took my daughter to the doctor and she had a bacterial infection in her mouth from where one of her molars and broke through. Feel around under her jawline and make sure she doesn't have any knots. They have lymphnodes there.

I agree..anything cold on the gums will help. I used the cold washcloth trick myself for my two when those back teeth started coming in. The pediatrician said those are the hardest to cut and the pain only starts when the tooth is actually cutting the gum. Keep up the pain medication too and teething gel if they will let you in their mouth.

Praying for you and your little one,

J.

Yes teething isn't the easiest I have been thr 2 babies teething and they are 3 and 4 now. I gave them Tynelol the teething orajel they cried and teething tablets didn't work.

But what they liked was Quik trip or Sonic crushed ice and it seemed to help there little gums. My daughter and son still love the crushed ice to this day.

I hope this helps !

Hyland's teething tablets are a God-send.

I also recommend that if she is wanting to bite/chew, give her something that she can chew on. My son has an oral muscle issue and has a rubber tube that he chews on. I know this sounds strange, but go to the pet department and get a rubber chew toy for her that she can get into that area of her mouth. Just wash it first with dish soap (I'm sure everyone has squeezed all over them). If it has a squeeker, you can just take it out.

Another soother is an electric toothbrush.

Hope it helps.

You can alternate the tylenol with infant advil at two/three hour intervals. Also, let her suck on popcicles. Give her a soft wash cloth to carry and chew on.

Sometimes these molars are the hardest to cut. They will poke through the gums and then swell back up over them. My grandson's gums were almost purple when she was cutting molars.

You can always use the orajel; but most times, they won't even let you touch the area...and who wants to get bit, LOL!

It will last until the teeth finally work their way through the gums. Good luck and God Bless...
