My pediatrician told me that Motrin is much better at relieving pain than Tylenol. I would definitely agree. I don't have any other real secrets besides that... it just depends on what works on what particular day. Good luck!
I have an 8 month old son who's typically a light hearted child. However he's breaking all 4 of his top teeth at once. Last night he was up all night just screaming. I felt that there was nothing we could do to calm him down. We tried tylnoel, the jells, frozen rags fruits bagles, nothing seems to be helping. Just wondering if anyone out there had any alternative suggestions.

I've had success with Hyland's Teething Tablets. I got them at Walgreen's when my sister-in-law recommended them. They're all natural so you can give them more frequently. We do supplement them sometimes with baby orajel before bed, but it always seems to work. My son is almost one and has his two bottoms & two tops.
I have three kids so I promise I have been there. My second child got four teeth in one week and I thought we were all going to lose our minds. I hate to tell you this but it will eventually pass. One day the ice might help, one day a stick might help! My boys have both liked chewing on plastic when their teeth hurt. They each had a cow or duck or something that had rubbery feet with nubs on them. I know you can get them at Walmart and Target. Those were really soothing and the animal part is extra soft. Good luck. It's a hard part of babyhood. Hang in there! Soon he'll have a beautiful smile!
Have you tried Motrin? It was the only thing that really helped my son, and it's alright to use once they're 6 months old. It works much better than Tylenol. When my son was in lots of pain from teething I would make sure he always had some Motrin or Tylenol. He only got Tylenol if there wasn't enough time for a second dose of Motrin before bedtime. I know what you're going through -- my son got 3 molars and 2 other teeth within a 3 week time period.
You can also give babies childrens advil. you can actually alternate these for maximum effect. Giving Tylenol first then if thats not working give advil after 1-2 hours and then Tylenol again at 4-6 hours etc.
My son had the same problem with many teeth coming at once, my doctor told us to use Anbosol because it is stronger and lasts longer. I was concerned because of his age but the doctor said as long as your careful not to get it on his tounge he would be just fine. Also my son loved chewing on a tooth brush when he was teething, of course you have to sit with them so they dont fall or hurt them selfs but that really seemed to help. Good Luck!
Have you tried Hyland's Teething Tablets? They've worked extremely well for us - my DS's teeth take forever to actually break the gum, so he's miserable at nights for quite a while. The teething tablets are homeopathic, so there aren't the risks that there are with medications. I've found them at Walgreens and at Target, though at Target I had to ask the pharmacist because they kept them behind the counter. I also have some friends who've said that Motrin worked better for them than Tylenol. The other thing that we do for our son is fill his pacifiers with water and then stick them in the freezer. We just run them under water, squeezing the bulb and releasing to fill it up. He loves them, and if his teeth are bothering at night, one of them will soothe him instantly. Good luck - hope he feels better soon!
The reason Motrin is recommended is that it reduces the swelling, and that reduces the pain. Tylenol doesn't have an anti-inflammatory component.
I also recommend Hyland's. It worked best for my first two, not as well for kid #3.
One book I read recommended pressing with your fingers on the gums where the teeth are coming in - it sort of jump-starts the current cutting path in the gums and gives the teeth a small amount of pressure-free space (until they grow into that space). It's a very short-term fix, but I've seen it work on all three kids briefly.
My kids liked chewing on wood sticks (handles of wooden spoons, etc.) and metal or plastic spoons. Teethers don't always reach into the spaces between the teeth, and none of my kids liked cold things.
My son was up a couple of times last night due to all four top teeth. He woke up screaming so I just rubbed a bit of baby orajel on the top teeth and it seemed to help. We have also used the teething tabs with orajel if he gets really bad. Good luck!
I am sorry. When my daughter got all four at once, she had a fever and was up all night too. It won't last long. There are natural teeting tabs that Walmart, Coborns sells. They seemed to help. This too shall pass. Good Luck!!
