Teething Help - Brooklyn, NY

My son has just started with teething and the only thing my sister and best friend swears by are those teething tablets. I only tried them once and so far they have worked.

I haven't tried the teething tablets yet but I hear they're great. My daughter really likes a cold, wet washcloth to suck on.

I tried the tablets that I found at Walmart, but they didn't help... I would definatly say, try it, cause if it had worked I would have loved to use less Tylenol.

we did the all natural teething tablets and they worked wonders for our son. We also gave him lots of warm, soothing baths and just kept the house really quiet. I read in a book that too much noise can irritate their gums also- sounds strange, but keeping the house quiet and just playing soft music really seemed to work!!

try a vibrating teether. I got mine at wegmans. i'm sure that any place that sells baby stuff like target, walmart, BRU, and buy buy baby would also have some. or just teething beads or something. cold things help, but aren't neccessary. also, you can give him a little motrin before bed to help with nighttime teething pain.

Baby orajel is a good product but check with your pediatrician before using it. On a more "old school" note, my mother gave me advice which I was horrified about at first but which totally worked. You can take a sweet liquor or wine and rub a little (very little--just a tiny drop on your finger) on your son's gums. This totally works! Best of luck!

I have 7 mo old twins and we are pretty much in the same place! What works for mine are the teething tablets :Hyland's. We usually do 3 and then another 3 in an hour for the fussiest times....I've tried the baby oragel, but it is so shocking and strong to them- too harsh! I have also realized that those little bath toys (found at CVS or baby stores) work really well. There is a little turtle and crab that are perfect for those bottom gums and little enough for small hands to grab and shove into mouths!! Another thought...Have you tried frozen fruit in the little mesh teethers? I just tried this for them and my son was slow to warm up to the cold, but once he tasted the mango I couldn't take it away he loved it so much!! Good luck.

i have a teething product that i LOVE!! it is called Gentle Naturals Homeopathic teething drops. i found it at Target in the baby section, but you can find it on the web too and other stores carry it too. it is essentially chamomile, but it works like a charm! i used it for a set of cranky twins and it helped immensely. good luck. NOTE!! i saw someone recommended motrin-babies under 6 months should not use motrin-ask you doc before you use it.

Hi R.. I always used homeopathic medicine with my boys...still do, and it always worked for them. I also would use tylenol like before bed or something, and then during the day the Hylands Teething tablets. Try those. Hope it helps. :)

We used the Hylands teething tablets, they seemed to work - along with the frozen wash cloth. I would stay away from letting him chew on the rubber duckies though, unless it says it is "phthalates" free. On the news there has been alot of warnings regarding lead and phthalates in children's items/toys, etc - both have some sort of toxins that are dangerous for children if sucked on (if above legal limits). Seems many of the duckies are scoring high for phthalate amounts. What's next, right. Anyway just be cautious... Good luck.

Try a water based teether. They were the only ones that worked with my oldest daughter. She didn't like the frozen teethers because they were too cold and she couldn't chew on them. The water based teethers just go in the fridge. You let them get cold and then let the little one chew away. If they can grasp it, it's not too cold for their hands and its maleable. Its easier for them to chew and for some they get more relief. Also, if you don't want to keep giving your little one tylenol, try baby orajel. I hope this helps and good luck to you.

Completely safe teething toy! The rubber is safe and it's painted w/ food paint. Of all the toys out there it's the only one that my son can really get relief from. He can fit one of the legs in his mouth and go to town. The other teething toys seem so big to really get in their mouth. Sophie is really popular now - you'll see her everywhere!

We used Hyland's Teething Tablets with great success, and only gave Tylenol 2-3 times for all our son's teeth. He even asked for them when cutting his 3 year old molars, and I have some on hand in anticipation of cutting his 6 year old molars.

Hi R. try scallions! You know those long thin green onions with a white tip? You cut the white tip off and cut the little stems sticking out, then that part from where you cut the little "hairs" off rub it on his gums gently like massaging them I'll tell you it works wonders! I tried it with my two kids and now with my 6 month old (he has 7 teeth already!) and it calms him down instantly! They make like a funny face because of the taste but they get used to it :) Good luck!

We've used Hylands Teething Tablets with great success. The thing with homeopathics is, you're not supposed to touch them with your hands. Tap the bottle to get the required amount of tablets out into a spoon, then put in baby's mouth. They melt VERY quickly, no chance for choking. If you do ever touch a tablet, DO NOT put it back in the bottle. Discard the one that was touched.

The teething tabs worked soooo good for our son. He was a completely different baby once we gave them to him.
I would also use Tylenol before bedtime or naptime, if it was really bad (ours was really miserable with each tooth popping through).
I also found a teether at Toys R Us, it's kind of big thoguh, has a handle and a T shaped end with little rubber bristles. He loves that when teething too.

Things that worked for my boy: a silver bracelet that I kept on my necklace (still do). Just a bangle, round, no sharp anything. Even the wire it was made from is round.

Frozen pancakes (a bit early for your boy, but if you are comfy having him off breastmilk a little bit, this might help you. We make them WITHOUT eggs or milk. A little banana & apple once he started those (about 1 year) and they tasted great to him. :) We make them in huge batches and freeze them. msg me if you want the recipe we use. It is the old Betty crocker recipe, just tweaked a bit.

Frozen peas. :) Yup, he'd gum them and swallow them whole. Again, when the guy is ready.

Teething toys yes, but he wasn't a big fan of them.

Really the bracelet was what did it.

Don't bother with Tylenol..it doesn't address the kind of pain that teething entails, because it doesn't ease the pain that comes from swelling. Advil (motrin, ibuprofin) will work wonders, for about 6 hours. That is the type of medication that is best for teething, if you want to use medication. We did and it worked like a charm. I understand you don't want to rely on meds. long term, but teething doesn't last forever, and isn't it worth a good nights sleep and his comfort for a while!? ;)

I hav tried the the Razbaby teether. It is all chewable. It looks like a binky but it is to big for them to chew on. My daughter loves chewing on it. I have found it at Kinney drugs not sure where else it may be.

My husbands family passes down the family secret...frozen waffels! Cut in to strips. My kids would knaw at them and they would come away w/little pieces that were mushie so no chocking worries. They loved them, and so have all the kids in the family. You will probably need some other measure to help with pain as well, but my kids didn't want anything to do w/teethers. Hope this helps.

We love Hylands Teething tablets. They are Homeopathic and all natural. I would put them on his gums and when they disolve a little rub them in to his gums. My son is now 2 and we still use them for the lovely molars he is cutting.

Yes...the teething tablets are a Godsend! I wish they would've had them around long enough for all my children.

Hyland homeopathic teething tablets are great I work for a pediatric dentist thats what we recommend.Make sure that they dissolve do not get the hard tablet.

Hylands teething tablets. I gave them to my 2 girls. Natural, & they don't taste bad. Both girls would see these coming, & open right up & chew them.
