So my almost 6 month old has been so fussy these last 3-4 days. I believe her bottom 2 teeth are about to come thru because I can see white o her gums. Being a first time mom, I don't know what to do. I bought the hylands teething tablets but those don't seem to work. She gets happy for a couple min because she likes to eat them. Anyway, I also tried baby orajel and I just tried it today and it seemed to work a while but then she started screaming and putting her fingers in her mouth and she'll bite on her blankets and scream. She doesn't like her teething rings she just bites on a clean burp cloth or her bib. What have you moms done to help ease the teething pain? Thanks :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ladies, thanks so much for all your suggestions! I tried the freezing the washcloth and that's worked soo great!! I also went to go get one of those vibrating teether and she liked that one too, although she is still getting the hang of it. Lol. But again thanks so much, that frozen wash cloth is the greatest idea ever! :)

I didn't see this answer -- frozen peas (one at a time). They're cold, healthy and small enough to be swallowed whole.

Motrin! At 6 months she should be able to have some. This is a "wonder drug" and we have used it a lot for teething pain. Tylenol just didn't cut it. My son was a completely different person (happy) after taking some when he was teething.

Yes orajel is very temporary and do not keep using it. How about your finger? Washed ofcourse. or cold washcloth. Keep her breathing through the nose also to prevent damage later. Helps inflammation and many other things. Use you fingers to gently close her mouth. ; ) M. RDH, oral facial myofunctional therapist.

Nurse extra
frozen bannanas in a mesh feeder
cold cucumbers
frozen washcloth

Remember sometimes their entire faces/sinuses are inflamed.

Try the Hyland's Gel, we use that stuff on my son's molars, and it is great. Much safer than the Baby Orajel (which we also used), and you can do it more often. We tried the tablets, they seem to distract more than help, but the gel is great. We also use Motrin when it's really bad and he won't stop screaming (normally happens for us when the tooth is actually breaking through).

Wet washcloths are also good. Anything she can chew on that is safe and that she likes, including her toys, works.

Our son really liked to chew/suck on a wet washcloth that had been in the freezer.

Infant motrin worked better than tylenol for my daughter. I put baby orajel on her gums then gave her motrin and then her binky and she was set. Hope that helps and good luck!

well i usually will give my baby girl orajel and then her pacifier right after it always seems to do the trick. and i also give her baby Tylenol with it.

I give my son some tylenol. I also wet a wash cloth and put it in the freezer for a couple of minutes to get it really cold. He goes to town on that thing. It seems to help. If it seems really bad then I give the orajel but that only lasts a few minutes so I try to distract him and get him to focus on anything else but his gums.

My daughter's favorite chewy when she was teething, was frozen washcloths. I would get several of her baby washcloths wet, put them in a baggie in the freezer and pull them out when she was fussy. She would chew on them as she crawled around the house. When she was done with one, she would give it to me and I would pull another one out for her.

Hey Y.,
You can take a clean wash cloth, wet it and then stick it in the fridge or freezer for an hour or so. Your little darlin' will enjoy gnawing on this. The only caveat to this is that you must make sure that you do a double rinse of your towels and washcloths to ensure all the detergent has been removed.

Get on of those mesh feeders and put an ice cube in it. Or frozen peaches etc. Frozen and she can control it. Works like a charm. Also if it gets real bad and she weighs enough infant tylenol- ask your doc. Good luck.

Tylenol helps a lot. Just rubbing something over her gums feels good, so if she won't take a teething ring, see if she'll chew on a rattle or anything she can rub her gums with.

There's this vibrating teething ring at Safeway, it's awesome! It was the only thing that would help her teething when she started. It numbs their gums and makes noise, plus it's very easy to turn on, baby just bites on it. It's about 7 bucks.

The rubber tooth brush you put on your finger, it usually comes with a little tube of baby orajel toothpaste. Just the toothbrush worked wonders for my baby girl. She was about 6 months when she got her bottom two also. Id stick it on my finger and let her chew to her hearts desire.

Mine's working on his first tooth - and I sure would wish it would come in! The only thing that seems to make him consistently happy (or at least less miserable) is chewing on my thumb. Good luck!

They have a monthly giveaway and its easy to enter and free. Baltic Amber is so pretty and cheap there's not really a reason for u to not try it for yourself.

Try freezing a wash cloth in the freezer. The rough texture and the cold usually works when nothing else does. Also some infant tylenol might help ease the pain as well.
