my 5 and a half month old sons are having periods of fussing. They both are chewing on everything they can get a hold of, and the fussing seems related to this. Could they be teething? Please give me some "all natural" ideas to ease the pain! C.

What can I do next?

Yep, they could be teething. It can be wet but what I always did was wet a wash cloth and put it in the freezer. Then, I gave it to my youngest and let him chew away. I put a bib on him to keep his shirt dry. It works because it numbs the gums. Happy Holidays!!! Good Luck!!!

the best thing that worked for my daughter was a damp washcloth that I placed in a plastic baggie and then put in the freezer. After a little while when the washcloth was cold enough I took it out of the baggie and I gave it to my daughter and she went to town! I also tried frozen carrots or green beans (with supervision of course) or a chilled teething ring for her to chew on. I have also heard of moms trying frozen ice pops. Just put some juice in an ice cube tray with toothpicks and wait till frozen. Kids really enjoy this one. My daughter was only 3 months old when she started cutting teeth so I wasnt comfortable doing this with her. See what works best for you!

I don't know how natural this is, but when my daughters were teething i would give them frozen waffles to chew on and when they got thawed and mushy i would take them away for obvious reasons. Another thing that worked well for my girls was folding washcloths to resemble hotdogs, get them wet and freeze them. There is less of a choking hazard that way. Hope I was of some help!

My girls both started teething at four months, so that could definitely be it. Try Hylands homeopathic teething tablets. You should be able to find them at Walgreens or Target. They are safe, and you can give them a couple of times a day. The tablets disolve in their mouths.
Hope that helps!

I noticed a lot of frozen washcloth responses, I just wet the washcloth with cold water and let my kids chew on those. It's something to chew on and not harmful to the babies. :) I never used the teething tablets, but apparently lots of moms swear by them, so you could try those too. :) Another thing I liked were the rubber teething toys, they usually have some kind of texture on them for soothing the gums. Walgreens used to carry a teething toothbrush as well that I used, not sure if they still carry them though. Only draw back there is you have to wash them often. Hope I've helped.

Hi C.,

I have twins that are now 13, and an 8 yr. old son who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, so I can appreciate how busy you must be...plus, you work full-time with a challenging group of kids. Kudos to you! If you want to stick with only natural relief for their teething (pretty sure that's what it is if they're biting and chewing things), just get those rubbery (?) water filled teething necklaces. You can keep them cold in the fridge, or in my case, the freezer, and let the kids chew on them. Of course, if you use the freezer, wipe the frost off so it doesn't stick to their tongues :> -S.

Homeopathy:
Chamamomilla: If they are crying without being able to be consoled.
or

I recommend teething tablets. They worked so well for us! It even says on the label that it is an all natural remedy that disolves instantly on baby's tongue (so no fear of choking) and not to be surprised if baby falls asleep. It explains that baby won't fall asleep because of the teething tablet, but because they have finally been able to relax and get comfy once the pain has gone away. They don't always go to sleep, but they do stop fussing and look happier. You can get them at CVS pharmacy and Wal-Mart for sure. Good luck- because it does sound as if your sons are teething.

I used Hazel's Soothie pacifiers and filled up the hole with water and froze them. Then she'd just num on them. When the ice fell out, it would just melt. She still likes it occasionally to chew on, even though she's not teething any more.

All 3 of my kids responded very well to a homepathic remedy called Hyland's teething tablets. You should be able to find them at Whole Foods and Walgreens, although many other places carry them as well.

I agree with the previous poster, Hylands Teething Tablets are a Godsend! I find them at Meijer, Walmart, Walgreens, pretty much any major chain store now. Let your little buggers chew on a cold wet washcloth. The texture and cold feels great on their little gums, plus the cloth is too big for them to swallow, but keep a close eye on them anyway. :)

there are some Hylands teething tablets (you can buy them from Walmart in the vitamin section for about 6.00 (well worth the money)). They disolve instantly and are natural (homeopathic, 100% natural, no side effects, soft tablets dissolve instantly) I have used these with my 3 kids and I would not go without them. They numb the baby's gums for a couple of hours. What a life saver.

C., my name is C., I know of a easy way to ease the pain. It worked wonders for my daughter and myself at the age of 20. Its called Hylands teething tablets, they disolve as soon as they touch saliva, so you don't have to worry about choking, unlike the "gels" that get into the sore gums and sting while it numbs the pain, the teething tablets don't sting at all and work very well, even on adults. It's a good way to help with the pain and fussiness of your little ones, if you decide to try them, put one or two in your mouth to see how quickly it desolves, you'll be amazed. I hope this helps even a little. C.
