It should move into place as time passes. But i would ask the dentist next time you are in for your check up. Godd luck and god bless
I have a little girl that just turned one. She has the top 4 teeth in front and 3 on the bottom. It looks like one of her canines on top is coming in behind the inciser. Is this normal? Will it straighten out?

Hi, I'm a dental hygienist. It isn't the typical order or location of eruption but it's nothing to worry about. Usually after the four incisors erupt on top and bottom the first molars erupt leaving a gap where the canines will be. Then the canines come in, followed by the second molars around age 2.
The next time YOU go for your own dental exam & cleaning take her with you & just have them take a quick peek at your appointment. If something eventually needs to be done they wouldn't do it at this age. They'd wait as long as possible without compromising other teeth. Although it's somewhat alarming to a parent, be assured this isn't a big deal.
Take her to the dentist. She should have her dental check up at one year anyway, so this is a good time to ask your dentist about the tooth. The dentist will know better how her mouth should be, better than a pediatrician. Good luck!
Hi C.,
I would take her in for a check-up. (1) year is the age for the first dentist visit. Even if you don't have insurance, I'd take her. My daughter's first visit was $25. The dentist is very knowledgable and will give you other pointers and advise to keep your daughter's teeth healthy.
Kind Regards,
TRUDI
It's pretty normal for the teeth to come in a different spot than they end up in. I would wait to see if the canine comes in all the way, and when it does have the dentist check to make sure it's OK. If it's behind the middle two on the top, that could indicate a different problem. I think it is too early to worry much.
I agree with taking her in. Both of my kids went to the dentist early in life and it totally helps with their comfort level down the road. They will be able to tell you.
My daughters bottom teeth (permenant) were way far back when they started to come in and moved into place fine. The teeth shift according to what room they have and how the baby teeth are positioned in her gumline. You cannot visually see a lot of that without an xray. With my daughter all her baby teeth came in fine however she did have a tooth on the bottom that did not have another one behind it. Meaning there was no permenant tooth after the baby tooth fell out, which will ultimately be a positive since she has spacing issues already. Best thing you can do is take her in though to a good Pediatric dentist. Both of my kids LOVE going to the dentist and I started them early, so it is definitely a positive.
