Teeth for a 2 Year Old

Hi L., I am in school for dental assisting. It is normal for the canines to come in last, well actuallt next to last. The 2nd molars should be the very last ones, by age 3. Every childs teeth come in differently as far as ages. The canines are usually between 16-22 months, but they could take a little longer. There is no need to worry. I hope this helps a little. I finally found a question on here that I truely knew about!

I am a dental hygienist of 11 years and it is very normal to not have canine teeth erupt until last. I have two boys ages 4 and 9 and both of them had their own time table when it came to their teeth. Just give it time and I would suggest visiting a pediatric dentist for a "happy" visit just to check.

I started talking with my dentist before my daughter had 6 teeth and he was happy to answer every question. I did go to school with a girl who had no I-teeth on the top. I can't remember her bottom set. She was born with no baby I-teeth and after being X-rayed when she was older they discovered she'd have no perminent ones either. In high school she wore a partial. I remember when she was in trouble once, her mom took her "teeth" away as punishment! True story! This woman is BEAUTIFUL to this day and besides the bad call on her mom's part for a week when she was 17; it hasn't affected her life or kept her from achieving her goals. :)

I'd take her to see a dentist,a pediatric one if there sis one in your area.

I wouldn't worry about it, my daughter is the same way. She didn't start getting her teeth until later and is still lacking those two. My mother in law actually said that she heard that if they get their teeth later it is good because they generally will have healthier teeth later in life. I don't know if there is any truth to that or if it is just an old wives tale, but my dr wasn't concerned about her development when we went to her two year check up recently.

I work for 2 Orthodontists and we have patients come in all of the time that are missing teeth. I'm not sure at what age eye teeth come in but I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Sometimes teeth are slower coming in or sometimes they sort of get stuck up in the gum and an Orthodontist can do different things to get them to come down. At any rate I don't think you need to worry. When he starts going to the dentist they will take exrays and evaluate the situation when the time comes. I hope this sets your mind at ease. You should take her to the dentist for her first checkup now anyway. They will just take a look, and familiarize her with the dentist, his office, and staff. The next appointment, six months later they will polish her teeth. I don't know that it is abnormal to not have the canines yet, but I would definately take her just for a look see!

Every child is different and gets teeth at thier own rate. Having said that, it's a good idea to start taking your child to the dentist at two. Good luck.

It could be that she doesn't have them. My oldest daughter was missing baby teeth. When it came to her permenant teeth, she was only missing one. She has all of her permenant teeth now and you'd never know she was missing one. I wouldn't worry to much about it. I'm sure she has a great smile.
