I am done having kids and would like to get a tattoo of all three of their names somewhere on my back. First how bad does it hurt and I want something awesome! Any suggestions or pics? I looked on Google and couldn't find any good pictures.

What can I do next?

Depends on your tolerance for pain. I don't find it that bad and I've had my tattoos done in some sensitive places. The more fleshy the area, the less it should hurt, but this totally depends on the skill of the artist. I had one that was just horrible and it hurt way more than it should have because he was going too deep. You can also take ibuprofen before you go to help if you don't tolerate pain well.

If you have a basic idea of what you want, you can go to an artist for them to design something. Or if you find a piece of a design, you can have them modify it into something that you would like. I just had my son's name and birthday done in a star on the inside of my wrist with smaller stars and a sort of scroll design in the background. The artist I went to modified a picture I found to make it work and it turned out awesome. All of the parlors I've gone too have been pretty laid back about looking at their studio before getting work done to make sure you find it clean and acceptable. If your state licenses the studios, you can call and check on their record as well. You'll find something that will work for you!

Hurts less than waxing or stubbing your toe... Hurts more that being pinched.

I have a four-color butterfly tat on my calf - didn't hurt at all, just tingled, kind of like when your foot falls asleep.

First at Sara S most every tattoo shop has body piercers...so I'm not sure what kind of places your frequenting but I've been to many shops for both tattoos and piercings sometime at the same shop...ya...tattoos hurt, some places more then others. I would go to a few shops and just ask the artist what they suggest. They do their best work when they are given free reign to do what they want, and most shops WILL NOT let you drop in a just watch.. None of my tattoos are flash, even my half sleeve of flowers was free handed with a sharpie. Have fun and be careful tattoos can be addicting! LoL btw I have about 60% coverage

I know you said....your back.....but my sis has an ankle tattoo.

It's a flowing, leafy vine with her 3 kids' names written (in script) between the "leafy" links. Coming off each kid's name are shooting stars in soft colors. It's awesome & I'm not a freak on tattoos!

I would say that if you've had three kids then you can handle a tattoo. But without knowing any of your interests or your style, I can't really give you any ideas of what to do.

Do some research into tattoo artists in your area and go talk to them about what you want and have them help you design something.

I agree with Sara B from Lees Summit. Drop in on a few tattoo places, but DON'T go to a tattoo shop WITH a piercing studio! Because chances are high they don't specialize in either piercings or tattoos! NOT TO SAY there aren't talented artists that either pierce or tattoo and work at combo shops, but anyway... first and knowledge lets me believe you find a good TATTOO shop. Visit them. Ask if you can watch them work. Most people who get tattoos don't mind in the slightest! They appreciate an audience. once you feel comfortable with an artist, ask him or her to view their book. Don't ask for their book of tattoos BEFORE you watch them work... I feel this is important. you want to see how they treat the customer, how they work with their tools, how they appreciate the craft of tattooing BEFORE you see what they are capable of doing. Look at their "book", usually available at the front. If they DON'T have a book of their work, DON'T use them! Most if not 99% of tattoo artists have a book. :) you can handle the pain. I got a tattoo in the middle of my back over the spinal chord, and I want another soon. I've gotten many piercings, but only at piercing parlors. Take my word for it... ONLY tattoo shop, or, look for a tattoo shop that has a very small piercing space, maybe one guy that does piercings. If a piercer says they also tattoo, they may not be the most qualified. Again, some are... just ask tons of questions. They have answered them all, I'm sure! What does it feel like? Bee stings doesn't put it mildly. It's not like a bee sting, but more a dull aching sting. It feels quite nice, actually! You'll love it, I'm sure! :) Now on the back of the neck? I've heard that's quite tender. But once they start and you get use to it, it's really not a big deal. PM me for more questions, but I think I covered everything. :) I will look for some pictures... I want to get my daughters name done soon.

I have four, on my lower back, left shoulder blade, and tops of my feet. My shoulder blade didn't hurt at all, the feet hurt like hell! But they're my favorite. One is a word that's a combination of my kids' nicknames, so it's meaningful but not just their names. I love my friend's tattoo on the inside of her foot, or the ones on the ribcage, side of the forearm, inside of the wrist, or inside and down the bicep.

depends on the person and the exact placement of the tattoo on your body for the amount that it hurts, usually not that much.

Living in Ohio, you have access to some of the best artists in the business. Having said that, ask around, people love talking about their art and who did it, get their opinions about local studios and their artists. Make an appointment for a consultation with the artist, if they are reputable, they will have no problem with this. If they balk, move on, I would never want to work with an artist who is not willing to answer all of my questions beforehand.

Many of them specialize in portrait work and if you provide them with photos of your children, they can translate them into flash for your tattoo.
I have a black and gray of my mother on my left shoulder that looks exactly like her when she was 16 years old. It was my favorite photo of her and I had it done as a memoriam tattoo after I lost her.

I worked in a studio for a few years as an Office Manager and got to know many very talented artists and the one thing I learned is that the big burly former football player was more apt to complain about the pain than than the 100 lb mom It truly does depend on your artist though, some have a heavier hand than others, but often, the one with the heavy hand is the one whose work you never have to get recolored.

I love all of my work but the one that got my attention on the ouch scale was on my right hip. Granted it is huge and took a few sittings, but to me it was well worth it.
