I am curious...do you have tattoos? If so how many? do your kids ask about them? Piercings too.
I have 3 facial piercings and I think it is funny, the first thing mosts kids ask me is''what is that?'' while pointing to my face. I always just say holes god didnt give me:) I also am covered from toe to arms...and back in tattoos. I dont like getting full color. I let my kids use me as a coloring book. And they do. My kids have been around for alot of them. So they get excited when I go see our tattoo guy. They always know mama is going to come back colored on. It is just apart of who I have grown to be.
Here are my tattoos: butter fly on foot. fairies: back hip and calf. I have Jack skeltington From nightmare before Christmas on my right fore arm. A family designed rose that all my sisters have on my left wrist. My naked twins for Gemini on the back of my left arm. And angel wings on my lower back.last but not least..cherries on my right side..they now look like delightful apples thanks to the babies. For my birthday I am getting Lock, Stock and Barrel across my chest( this is what I am getting for my boys) and eventually Sally. NMBC is a big part of my brain. I think the movie is dark but shows us that it is good to stay true to yourself. Trying to be something your not is nothing that is it is cracked up to be. you end up confused and lost...
I want tattoo stories. I know they are out there. Even if you dont have any...what would you get if you were up for it?? Iknow they are not everyones cup of tea..I think they are fun!!
I love the ideas behind them!!! and what they show!! very cool!
Hazel...My angel wings are horrid. When I had got them done my dad didnt know I was getting them. So at moments noticed I had them done on my low back. I had him do white and very very light touch of blue. That is the most color I have..From having babies, oh lord it looks like a bird is trying to take flight off my back:) small price to pay. I will probably see what my guy can do with it eventually.
Riley, that is a good rule!!!
Never in my wildest dreams think I would wake up to so many cool stories!!! Thank you ladies!! I love them all! and for you who are not into it..Thank you too. There is nothing wrong with not wanting them. I never thought I would become addicted to them. I love them though. Thank all again for sharing!!!
Amanda F......My husband has his ears stretched too. He works for a well to do law firm too!!! I always wonder if they hired him to be the plate holder:) I love them though and wouldnt trade his lobes for anything! If it wasnt for the fact my ears itch so bad I would stretch mine to. It is just very uncomfortable.
My views in regard to tattoos being unsafe.
Yes I think everything you do can have risks and benefits. I have a tattoo guy that is amazing. Does this ensure my safety completely though? no. It is something though I feeling strongly about. I know the risks. I also know I go when and where my maker decides...so if i go because of my tattoos I go. My dad who is 64 got his first tattoos about 8 years ago. He was a man strong in his convictions not to get any. Then something inside him told him to go. He now has a sleeve done on jesus and children following. He also has a globe and gods hands holding it. My heart looks at it like this...We all risk our lives getting into our 2 ton sling shots aka the car everyday and dont htink about how dangerous that actually is. I see tattoos the same way. I actually am more afraid to get in my car( I have good reason for this though) then to have a needle across my canvas.
I dont know a ton on ear stretching. I know in some cultures it is a big thing. Also with lip discs and neck rings. All have some significance. My husband started his when we were dating. His was more of just wanting to do it then anything else. They have gotten bigger and bigger over the years. I think though he is to the point where they are big enough and he has stopped stretching them!
I find it humorous my tramp stamp are my angel wings! I hope when I get met at the pearly gates god doesnt ask me to turn around and say''hey, you tramped it with angel wings? what say you to this before you enter my temple for eternity???"

I have nothing against tattoos, but I am one of those people that likes different things , so I would never be able to decide on any 1 design. And I really would not want the tattoos all over the place.
Also now that everybody is doing it, I am kind of excited about not having any markings on my body to be the odd one out.
I saw a great tat last night at the David Sedaris performance, it was a merman.. Really cool with great colors.

I have none and will never have any. I often think about tattooing something for my girls on me somewhere but I don't see the reason. Tattoos are so permanent and I see far too many people regret them. People will tattoo things that are so fleeting and fad-ish on themselves and I've never understood that. I can appreciate meaningful tattoos but what if you end up not liking the placement, the design, or the color? No judgment though, I've seen some very beautiful tattoos on other people, and for some people it is definitely an outward extension of their inward beauty. More power to you but as for me, I think it's a no.

((I have a house rule I have to wait a year from wanting to getting... which has kept things slow... also the money issue. Between backpiece or camera, I go with camera... ditto sleeve or plane tickets, I buy tickets. I'm a visual artist... so I've got a double problem... 1 I've only got this one canvas here, and 2 I want my body to be incorporated into that art... aka if I were drawing a figure of myself... where would said art go to make the figure look the best as well. So I can't just have stuff I like / have my art on my body... if that makes sense?))
I have double/triple translation Kanji along my spine. In Japanese it says Freedom & Soul... which translates to English as Free Spirit (which isn't a phrase/idiom in Japanese)... so it translates BACK to Japanese as Honor. I had the calligraphy done custom by Eri Takase http://www.takase.com/ 6 years ago. Having grown up mostly in Japan, it's special to me on a number of levels... and I particularly like the way the translation actually becomes quite fluid. I (brokenly) speak a few languages... and the way that certain concepts just don't translate, or the way that they DO translate is endlessly fascinating to me... I'm a word geek... that's all it is.
In 2 weeks I get to have "Muchness" written on my left wrist (yay!). From Burton's Alice in Wonderland. My 2 favorite stories from childhood (wonderland & through the looking glass), and this most recent rendition I'm simply in love with.
In 6mo + funding I get to have something on my back I've wanted for years. I have to wait, because although I've wanted "it" for ages, I didn't actually have the design. Now I do. So I wait. It's in the style of paper puppetry. And I'm not saying more until it's on.
I love color... (looking at it, that is)... but I won't get it. Black & shading is "me".
I used to do full body paint (back when I had a kickass body), I still draw on myself with sharpie. If I outline first in superglue (or nuskin), then it doesn't bleed. So I have "temporaries" I suppose, on a regular basis.
I think my mum may have gotten me started. We used to wake up in the morning to find our bellies as pieces of art. Buterflies, tigers, dragons... my mum is a REALLY talented artist. She must have spent hours working on us while we slept. She'd never give us any warning, either. A few times a year, we'd wake up to the most WONDERFUL surprise. Being in the USMC cemented the rest. LOL... I can't TELL you how many times I'd had scheduled to get those letters on me when I'd be called off leave and sent somewhere, or a hurricane would hit, or something would crash and we'd have to go fetch it out... It became a running joke: If R. was getting tagged, don't bother leaving base.
Also... I love the tattoos on mumified bodies. Thousands of years old. I'll be okay at 90.

I don't have any and never will. Mostly because I don't like them but even if I did I would be too chicken-that has to hurt! One thing I will suggest to you though is to be vigilant about body moisturizing....not sure how good they are going to look when your skin starts to sag. I am 44 and I can already see the elasticity going in my arms and legs a little bit.
Piercings other than in the ears just freak me out...I find I have to look away. Esp with those big ones the kids wear in their ears.

Hi Libby,
I have five tattoos. The first, when I was 19 (waaay back in the day); 1999, at an old hardcore tattoo parlor in the 'scary' part of town; was a rose on my right ankle. Easy to cover with socks if need be. Loved a man in the Navy and when he left Portland, decided to remember his tattooed self by getting myself one.
Second: a moon and stars on my lower belly near left hip. Kind of a girlie thing, but wanted it before I went into the service. Months later, a sun on my right shoulder, because I was getting stationed on a ship, and you can go days without going above decks and seeing the sun.
Bad tattoo: a wreath of flowers in the shape of a peace sign, left ankle. Bad tattoo artist-- didn't tell me not to do this, the design was too small. I now have a very blue, blurry peace sign (at least people can tell that's what it is). One of my sisters is a tattoo artist and I'm thinking that when it's time to cover it up, I'll call her. She's good.
Last one, a celtic type band to go with my rose. Also not a good experience, as the guy put the wrong color in on one spot and the redo wasn't well done.
I'm glad everything I had is easily concealed. Tats don't age well. Getting them touched up costs money. If I'd had a conversation with my now 40 year old self back then, I likely wouldn't have listened. If I could go back and 'edit', the peace sign and ankle band wouldn't have been done in the first place.

I have 6 holes in each ear, and a belly button ring...ive had all of them since I was about 16. Used to have an eyebrow ring but it "grew out" and a tongue ring but I got tired of it.
I have a fleur-de-lis on the back of my neck, no color just shading. I have an open lily on my shoulder/upper arm for my daughter (middle name is lily). I have (on my side) the rose from the Grateful Dead "American Beauty" album for my friend Bruno who died. I have a "tree of life" on my foot.
I love body art, in all forms. When Im 90 they will be wonderful reminders of the life I lived and great conversations pieces.

Fun question. I only have 5 tattoos. 2 nautical stars that cover most of my forearm. (on both arms)...Another nautical star w/ a wreath of daisies around it. (my fav flower) on my upper back, between my shoulder blades...An heart with pins in it, from Tim Burton's poem "voodoo girl". (I LOVE Tim as well!!! Hope to get a NMBC tattoo as well at some point!) The heart is on my chest. And I also have a skull w/ butterfly wings on my lower back. (I know, tramp stamp. LOL) My son is too young to really ask about my tattoos. But he does point at them and try to "feel" them. He's 14mo. His dad also has 9 tattoos. I did teach at a daycare and I have much younger siblings, and their reactions were always very cute. My little sister, at age 6, took a marker to herself ALL over, and when yelled at for it, she replied, "but I just wanna have tattoos like sissy does!!" LMAO!! We explained that when she is a grown up like sissy, she can have tattoos like sissy. : )
I also have multiple ear piercings, including an industrial cartilage piercing and 2g plugs. A nostril ring, "snake bites" labret piercings, and a micro-dermal implant under my left eye. I also had a septum piercing, until fairly recently when it started to reject. I sadly had to take it out. Piercing rejection is no fun! The kids seem to love the septum the most. My little brother used to moo at me all the time and tell me I looked like a bull. tee hee. Oh, and it's not really a body mod, but I have dreadlocks, which my siblings lovingly called, my "caterpillars"... : ) I'm sure my son will grow up and wonder why other mommies and daddies aren't so colorful and shiny as his are!
I just wanted to also add to whomever thinks getting a tattoo is "dangerous"...Yes, taking a needle to your skin CAN be dangerous, if not done properly and in a sterile environment. Reputable tattoo shops have VERY high standards for cleanliness and safety. They take safety classes on blood borne pathogens regularly. It is the LAW. Getting a tattoo or piercing at a licensed tattoo studio is about as safe as getting a shot/blood drawn at a doctor's office.

I currently have one. If you've ever read "The Lorax" by Dr. Suess, there's the part at the end where the little boy is standing in the circle of rocks that says "Unless" I have the circle of rocks with the word tattooed around my left ankle. The line on the page is "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not." As both a teacher and a mother, that line is very important to me, and I think it's a unique tattoo.
I've wanted for a couple of years now Ferdinand the Bull surrounded by some flowers (also from the children's story) on either my right arm or right shoulder blade. The drawings in that book are beautiful, and I like the idea that you can be a bull and still just want to sit peacefully and be very happy : ) It's important to me to remember and teach my kids that it's silly to fight just because you can, as well as the importance of being unique.
My husband isn't crazy about the tattoos, but I figure I'm not crazy about the stretch marks that I apparently have to live with for the rest of my life (3.5 years out from the last baby and they still haven't totally faded), so at least I can put something that I actually _like_ on my body!

I got a tattoo back in 1989. Then you had to go to the bad part of town to get one. The guy had a mean Rottweiler guarding the back door, and a loaded, cocked pistol behind the counter. I would never have gone there and done this but my new husband went and got one and said something like "you'd never do this!" Well, I can't ignore a dare!! He went with me to do it.
I got a fairy on my left shoulder blade. That was the common place back then that women got tattoos, except almost nobody did. I remember getting stares, and kids pointing and asking their moms what it was. My dad was outraged, my mom thought it was great. Hilarious when you think about it and now about half of everyone 30s and younger have at least one. We bought my stepdaughter her first one for her 18th birthday. She now has three.
For my 45th birthday, she came with me to get a navel piercing. Love it still! It is incentive to keep up the ab workouts so I can show it off. My stepdaughter has many piercings now, most are not visible in public... I am not planning any more piercings, but I could see me getting more tattoos, just can't justify the expense right now. I would like to get my old one redone, as it is faded, and the techniques are so much better now.

I have 12+ anywhere from my feet to my neck.
Eventually I will be half sleeved and probably a full leg.
I like all sorts of art and really enjoy Salior Jerry-esque tattoos. The one's I haven't gotten I keep to myself. =) The ones I do have are anywhere from stars to koi, cherries to japenese inspired.
The first young child that noticed them was my niece. I was watching tv and she was rubbing my foot, and she kept rubing and harder until it almost felt like it was burning. I looked down and asked her what in the heck she was doing, she said trying to rub the picture off. LOL after explaining they don't come off she wanted every tattoo that I have in the same spots (yeah her mom wasn't too thrilled).
My baby finds them. I will ask "where are the fishy's?" and she points to my feet. Etc. It's cute. I used to have my tongue pierced and we played the game of her trying to grab the barbell before I could get my tongue back in my mouth lol. I recently took it out after 8 years. So now she looks at my tongue funny when I stick it out at her.
=)

I have three piercings in one ear and four in the other. That's all the piercings for me.
I do have one tattoo, a cross wrapped in pink roses on my lower back. It is one I designed myself and I have always loved it. It's funny because I forget it is there until I'm doing something like trying on bathing suits and catch a glimpse of it in the mirror. I got it the week I turned 18, my parents wouldn't allow it until then.
I do want two more. I would like to get each my girls baby footprints on the top of each foot. Madelyn's on one foot and Amelia's on the other. BUT my husband HATES tattoos and has asked me not to get anymore. We will see if I end up having it done. I guess I want to wait and make sure we are done having kids, before I do something like that. I don't want to run out of room to honor each child. :)

I have two, but have had three done. The first was a small rose on my back, left side. The guy who did it was a three hundred pound biker. I am scared to death of needles, this was my overcoming that fear thing. Instead I was shaking really bad and the guy kept yelling Stop Shaking! Lol not such a good experience and the tat was awful. So I got it covered up with a dream catcher that looks like a tanned deer skin stretched over the circle with a wolf head in the center and it is gorgeous! I lived on an indian res for a while and little wolf was my given name. I also have two paw prints on my hip for each of my dogs. My daughter is two and sometimes she tries to wash them off, it always makes me laugh.

Once I'm done having kids and done with all my schooling (plan to go to Masters in Nursing for my Family Practitioner and Midwifery ARNP), I'll be getting some full color ones, most likely on my back. I have three.
The first, I received at seventeen and I got on my back. It is of a sun split by a snake. The sun, divided by the snake, is also a crescent moon. For me, it represents the absence of polarity (sun and moon in one) and of rebirth/regeneration (snake).
Aesthetically, it drives me nuts. It was poorly done, and I intend on having a talented artist redo it at some point. Symbolically, I still enjoy it.
The second is on my wrist and is a small infinity symbol. I got it at 18, when my sister was living in Seattle. I was having a rough patch, and drove up. She was also having a rough patch. But, we had each other, and gained strength from our connection. We decided to get tattoos, so that we could always visually remember each other and find solace in our bond. She got one on her leg. They are a symbol of our foreverness. Now that she is...gone, I still appreciate it. It reminds me of the person she was, the love we shared, and the timeless nature of existence.
The last is a small triangle that's lines are extended beyond the angles. A friend gave it to me when I was 19. It is on a (still) very visible scar. It represents my mom, my sister and myself. The continuation of lines represent our communities. That one is hard now, because I feel our trinity is broken and it is a reminder of grief and pain that I am trying to move through.
If I were to get another, I would get an oak tree. My childhood was spent climbing in them and playing under them. They are strong and noble. The best climbing tree, and a solid friend as a little girl.
And/or, one other, but I'm not telling just yet.

A yellow rose growing from a heart on my left ankle. My dad's favorite song was the yellow rose of texas - he passed when I was a little girl so that one is in remembrance of him. Got this one in '96.
Two dolphins in the shape of the pisces symbol over a dive flag on my lower back. Diving was my passion for many years and I was *this close* to being an instructor - life happened and I didn't test. Anyway, I want to get back into it & get my instructors cert & teach. Got this one in '04
My nose is pierced (on the side). This one in '03
Used to have my belly pierced but with the baby weight etc...it would look rather ridiculous now though I can still get a ring in there if I want. Originally had that done in '99.
My kids like them & want to see them but it's not a big deal. Most questions are about my nose, and I usually just answer that it's kinda like an earring only in my nose & they crack up.
One of my neices got her own name put down the outside of her right calf. We tease her all the time about being prepared for amnesia.

I do, a large butterfly, which has some meaning for me. I actually designed a crazy awesome tattoo with a dragon whose wings shape into a heart, but I never got around to getting it. I would love to have sleeves and a full back of the four seasons, and to have my butterfly colored in and customized a bit more... but my husband is pretty anti-tattoos and I'm trying to tamp down my tattoo desire, as it is also a religious conviction I have to keep our bodies clean.
Sometimes I regret my tattoo and would love to appreciate the natural beauty of my skin though. You can see I have a very flippy-floppy relationship with them.
I also had my ears gauged when I was younger and other body piercings but now wish I didn't. I love the look of simple, delicate studs but my ears are stretched (not too bad though) and I shudder when I see all of those dang holes up my ears and on my body.
In any case, my kids ask about it.... I just tell them it's permanent art that once it's on, can't ever be taken off so it's a serious decision to make and not one to be done on a whim or on some trend, and to also be respectful of what you do get and to think ahead, you don't want a huge skull or naked woman on your neck if you plan on working in the corporate world and such. It's good to teach foresight.

I have a dragon on my ankle that I got right after graduating from boot camp. It's funny, because when I went in to get it I had a completely different dragon picked out... but the tattoo artist asked me if I was REALLY sure I wanted that one, and showed me a bunch of others... which is where I found the one I actually got. It was pretty boyish, so I changed the colors from green, brown, and R. to blue, silver, and purple... along with my birthstone in the center. Luckily, my birthstone is a pearl (June) so it really has faded in time... So now I can go get it 'fixed' with my DD's birthstone instead!!! Lol. It's also designed in such a way that if I wind up having more kids, it won't be hard to add their birthstones later on. I want to get another eventually, but I'm unsure what I want. :) I have this thing where I will find something I 'want', and I will put a picture of it on the fridge. If I still like it after a couple months, then I will start saving up. I figure if I don't like it on the fridge for a couple months, then it's not worth being on my body forever! So far I have gone through 3 designs, and I'm still looking.

I've always wanted one, but never have gotten any. kinda glad, as my style has changed (ie, in Highschool I wanted a frog, but now I'd regret a frog on my body).
If I got one, I'd love to get matching wedding bands tattooed on my finger (and my husband one on his). Otherwise, I've always thought I'd get something on my foot somewhere - maybe my son's name or a special date. They say it hurts worse on your foot though. Doubtful I'll ever get anything. I'll stick with a few piercings. Those are easy enough to change or take out.

No tattoos here. I had a tongue piercing in highschool, until my Mom found out and make me take it out. I also had a belly button ring in highschool and college, but took it out when I met my husband. He didn't like it. I still have my ears pierced.

I don't but my husband does. I have ask him the story but he didn't have any "cool" one, lol.
The only cool one is the one he did when we broke up once, he tattoo a bar code, I still don't get the connection?
He has a Chinese symbol for "infinity" and "nothing", she has a Kun Fu dog (I forgot the name of the cartoon) and a Yin Yang.
He is another one of those that you wouldn't think he has, but he does.
Love to read all the tattoo stories in here!!

I have two small tattoos. They are a bumblebee and a ladybug on each outside of the calf near the knee. I think I would like to get one from Alaska and Hawaii on each boob. No piercings. My daughter got her nose pierced and I saw how painful it was and how a big girl cried!!

I had a tattoo done on my upper arm a couple years ago. I went through a major personal ordeal, and the tattoo was symbolic in the changes I was both forced to make, and the ones I chose to make. Its pretty, a large butterfly, with a bit of color on the bug body & in a couple spots on the wings, and its very unique as far as butterflies go... But I kind of regret it, the black is blueish now, and really it doesnt look so great with nicer clothes, I find myself wishing I could get rid of it. (I wont though) I have a navel piercing, and double ear piercings.. I woud suit a small eyebrow piercing and like them, but likely wont do that, at least not anytime soon.
I cant stand the look of the stretched out piercings! I did see a story somewhere, of a guy who had them, and had them pretty much cut out of his ears & stitched up. They looked pretty good, considering the huge holes he'd had.

The first one I got was on my left ankle, I drew it myself. Evidently I was a better artist then the tattoo guy so it doesn't look the way I wanted but I love it bc it was symbolic of me cutting the strings from my mom who was against tattoo's. This was 7 years ago, I recently drew a pic for her and now she wants to have it tatted on her! haha My 2nd is on my upper back it is very tribally and in the center has a big tribal heart with a S in the middle. The S stands for my last name, I wanted to get my hubbys name tattooed on me but settled for this instead! lol My 3rd is stars down my right ankle onto my foot it isn't finish yet tho. Half way thru I got sick!!! A week later found out I was preg! The other day my 3 year old son came up to me and looked at my left ankle and said mommy where are the stars?? I laughed and showed him my other ankle! That was the first time Ive noticed him noticing them!

I have a tattoo.
Just 1 though.
Got it in college. Just prior to Graduating.
Me and a bunch of girlfriends, we all went to the tattoo shop and all got the same tattoo.
Sorta like, a "secret club" thing.
We slaved the last year of school, working day and night on projects. We had a mantra to keep us going. And an associated image of us, working so darn hard. So that is our tattoo.
It is of a particular insect.
My Mom never even knew I had one... until I had kids and they would say out LOUD "Mommy, how come you have a tattoo????"
Too funny.
I also have had, many ear piercings. Which some I did myself.
But they are mostly closed up now.
I was a "Punk Rocker" back in the day. Mohawk and everything.
My kids know. Its fine. No biggie.

I have a little panda eating bamboo on the inside of my ankle, i picked him for many reasons. My mom used to call me A.-panda, and i wanted to stamp myself with something that reminded me of her. Around the time i was getting the tattoo i read an article about the panda. They are born meat eaters, but decide to go vegetarian (like me). They evolved rather quickly a hook on their paw that helps them strip bamboo. When presented with a difficult task they actually changed their d.n.a. in order to accommodate it. I really like the symbolic meaning behind that.
Will i ever get another-no probably not. It has to really mean something in order to get it printed on me for life. I would like to commemorate my dad as well in the form of something thin, that starts at the panda and makes a ring around my ankle, but i cant think of anything that is unique to the memory of my dad in tattoo form. he liked vultures, and theres just no way im getting that.

I used to want one, but never got one. I've always been pretty individualistic, and now that most people seem to have tattoos I'm really glad that I don't have one. My students are always asking me if I have a tattoo, and they are so surprised to hear that I don't. Most of them have tattoos already, and some are really beautiful. I like being different, though. I also like having a clean slate. :)

I have 4 tattoos. My first was a nautical star with smaller stars around it, on my wrist. I chose it for what it symbolizes. Then for mothers day a couple yrs ago I got the chinese symbol for Life on the right side of my chest and the chinese symbol for Thunder on the left side. Life=the meaning of my daughters name and Thunder=the meaning of my sons name. Then last year I got a symbol on my back repping my love for my favorite music, which also has other personal meanings for me.
I LOVE my tattoos! My parents freaked a little when they first found out...I was 23 though, so there wasnt much they could do lol. But, theyve come to terms now and I actually think my ink is growing on them a little :)
My kiddos are interested in my tattoos. They like them and always ask for the temp tattoos to put on. But, my hubby and I have always said, "No tattoos until your 18" ...at least then, its totally their choice and if they hate their ink later I dont have to hear, "Why did you let me get a tattoo!" lol ;)
I cant wait to get more! They are addicting!

I don't have any tattoos or piercings other than one hole in each earlobe. boring!!!! lol. I am a blank canvas!! haha. Just never wanted it but have nothing against it at all. I have a ton of family and friends who have tattoos and I think it must be a really personal thing/choice to have it done. Out of curiosity does the ear stretching have any significant meaning? I have always wondered where it comes from and what it means. Please don't tell me its something kinky!!! hahahaha.

I love these questions :)
I'm more or less covered. I'm not a dirty, scary, unkept person by any means... in fact, I dress pretty modestly, and am notorious for the 3/4 sleeve 'grandma sweaters' that I wear all the time, LOL!! My mother always associated tattoos with 'dirty criminals'.... of which I am neither ;)
My kids don't question my tattoos, I guess because they've only known me to have them. They do get REALLY excited when I get something new though!! Their new fav is my left sleeve, done after the book 'The Secret Garden'... they play 'I spy' to find the keys, LOL!!
My ink (and please note most of these run together as 'pieces'):
-3 stars inside my lower lip
-queens crown behind my left ear
-sparrow behind my right ear
- 3 hearts inside right wrist (for me and my girls)
-'JB' inside my left wrist (1st initials of my little brothers names)
-entire left arm, 'The Secret Garden'
-upper right arm, beach scene with flowers and a night sky (getting ready to add onto that baby!)
-'tramp stamp' that I drew, flowers and whatever
-roses down my spine
-2 other misc 'tribal' on my shoulder blades (hello poor 1st tattoo choices, LOL, but I would never cover them, I need them to remind me of being young and dumb!)
-back of left calf 'R&R' inside the infinity symbol, for my fiance and I
-entire back of right calf: waves with a purple flower (my 5 year old), pink flower (my 7 year old), and getting ready to add a goldfish with a hook through his mouth at the bottom, since when my 16 month old son was 9 months old, he 'ate' a fish hook ;)
-top of right foot, an old school sailor jerry style anchor, in memory of my godfather uncle B, who was an avid waterman
I really feel like I'm forgetting something.
Anyway, my fiance has some awesome stuff. I have almost all color, his is all black and shading. His sleeves are all HR GIGER stuff, very cool. His chest is a banner that boasts 'family', and has charicatures of the girls on his shoulders. I'm still much more of a blank canvas than he is, but I'm getting there :)
After we get married, we'd like to put something on the inside of our ring fingers... not sure yet, only because I have really teeny fingers, LOL!
Great question!

The only ones I like are tattoos that look like jewelry, something very symmetrical, maybe an armband. I love the tattoo that Pocahontas has in the Disney movie, but when I drew it on myself for some reason one time it looked ridiculous.
For me, tattoos, while very hip on young people, just don't work on old people. And I've seen my tastes change way too often. I won't be getting one. I like John Mayer's arm, though.

I have five:
My first was a dolphin on my right breast - I don't regret the tattoo, just the placement. It has been a thorn in my side for a long time. I got it in 1992, my step-dad had tattoos, and was supposed to get another one when he suddenly died. The tattoo shop gave me his deposit to use, and I got the dolphin becuase the only gift he actually ever got for me (not my mom, just him) was a dolphin stuffed animal from SeaWorld when I was 13, so it had a lot of meaning.
Second was a sun on my shoulder in 1996. Got it becuase my dad called me sunshine. I also designed it myself.
Third was the Serenity Prayer under the sun in 2000.
Fourth was a globe in the middle of my back when I graduated in 2003 with a social studies degree.
Fifth is an African symbol for family with another child drawn in. I used that because the statue was found in the remains from one of the last matrilineal tribes in Africa.
The responses to this have been so fun! Thanks!!

I have 3 tattoos. I think its beautiful artwork, and if it has a specail meaning behind it...then all the better. I have a nautical star on the inside of my foot for my best friend...(she has the same on hers). I have 2 larkspur flowers on my lower back for my daughters (its the flower for the birth month in July) and actually I am going add the flower for the months of April and December to it for my son and step-daughter....and last but not least I have the chinese symbol for Eternity on my wrist for my husband and he has the same on his back. All of my mine have meaning... and I love each one of them.
My kids think they are neat and know its for a special reason I have them. I told them that when they are of age they can make the decision to get one if they want. As for me, I dont think I am done..lol Besides the flowers I want to add to my back I want to get some heartfelt words up my side and something for my mom... its kinda addicting... lol..
You cant see any of them unless its summer and I have flip flops on or short sleeves... which doesnt bother me... I am proud of them...and love to show them off. I have been pleased with all the work I have gotten done...but they do hurt!! LOL What a neat question... Happy Tattoing Mommas!!

I've only seen one i liked in my entire life. It was an orange, yellow and pink sunshine in the middle of the upper back. Other than that I put them in the same visual category as blemishes. never liked 'em and would have to agree with a psychologist PhD husband and wife team lecture I went to one weekend. They said multiple tattoos and body piercings were a manifestation of self hatred.

I have one. I love my tattoo even after 13 years. I have Winnie the Pooh on my ankle. I thought long and hard and kept the picture with my for a while before I did it. I thought, I love Winnie the Pooh and when I am old and grey my grandchildren will still know who he is and maybe still think I am cool. I have had the itch for another one for a long time, but money keeps me from it. My husband would also like his first, but hasn't due to the same issues.
On a side note, my ex (husband), got my name in chinese down his arm, and we split up 2 months later.

I do! I have a back plate that took about forty hours, a blue flame on my chest, and tattoos on the backs of both heels- the mandarin "xiao-jiong" for "seek" (a Bhuddist principle by which I live my life) and the Hebrew "Nay vanad" for "wander" (the Jewish principle by which I live my life).
People are always asking me what I'll say when my daughters want tattoos. As far as I'm concerned, getting GOOD tattoos is symbolic of loving your body, and wanting to be connected to it forever. And that (especially in this age of body dysmorphic disorder and all other assorted body image issues) is something that I think is healthy.
I have 4. R hip is a yellow rose wrapped around a cross - got that one in college. L lower ankle (below ankle bone/side of foot) my oldest sons name and DOB written from deer horns - hubby designed it. R ankle (above bone) youngest sons name and DOB written in/disguised as a fish - hubby desinged that one too. L foot, big toe is a pink daisy - favorite flower, my baby girl lab is daisy and it was our flower of choice for our wedding. This summer I will be getting a lady bug in honor of my SD (her nick-name is T-bug), she picked the lady bug.

I have three. The first one I got when I was 21 - it is a small, purple butterfly on my lower left back to represent when I was young and free, with no responsibilities. The second is a seahorse, also on my lower left back, for my dad, because seahorses are the only animal where the male carries the babies. The third is my daughter's name: Kathryn Anne, with a cat in the middle of her first and middle names because everyone calls her "Kat". This is my largest piece and is on my right shoulder. The next one I want to get is my frist initial (R) intertwined with my brother's first initial (T) - I'm trying to talk him into getting the same one...so far he's not on board! :) My daughter is 2 and loves my tattoos, she calls them "Mommy's pictures" and she loves to pet and kiss the kitty on my shoulder :)
