Tattoo Cover-up for Wedding

There is a show called LA INK on TV. The owner of the shop has a very good product out for covering up tatoos. Kat Von D cover up from Sephora.

I have a lot of tattoos and have taken care to cover them for several weddings where I have served as a bridesmaid. I have never been asked by a bride but I felt that some people/guests may not be comfortable with tattoos or find them distracting and I would never want to take attention from the bride, no matter what sort.

That said, I have used several strategies. The first is to have a tailor artfully attach hook/eyes to the dress and matching wrap/shawl that so commonly comes with bridesmaid dresses. I did this for 3 weddings and at each, people raved about how polished I look with my wrap in such a way. In two weddings where the dress did not have a wrap, I used "Coverblend." It is the only product I have found that really does the job ... still, it will look like a bruise, rather than a tattoo. I wore long sleeves and high back for my own wedding. I love my tattoos and am proud of them - but they are personal and I didn't want my big day to be about my tattoos.

My best friend (with a tattoo) was a bridesmaid in another wedding and the bride asked her to cover her tattoo also. It really hurt my friend's feelings. The tattoo is a part of her and the bride knew about the tattoo BEFORE she asked her to be in the wedding party. The bride then wanted to single her out and asked her to wear a shawl. After yet another ridiculous request from the bride (not tattoo related), my girl friend bowed out of the wedding party. It also caused friction in their friendship for many years after. I realize that this is your daughter's day, but she needs to think of her friend's feelings. A dress that covers the tattoo could have been chosen. Why does she want tattoos on another person's back covered up? Pictures? Are over the shoulder glamour pictures going to be taken?

And I also agree with what other's have said...If the wedding party is all burnett and there is one blonde, is she going to be required to dye her hair? One with short hair going to be required to grown out her hair so that everyone can have their hair looking the same? Everyone is different...embrace it. And remember others' feelings.

I have heard "Derma -a Blend will work but the best one is supposed to be "Derma -Cover", you can get it at Nordstrom's or Sephora. Call 1st to make sure. It is waterproof and covers well. Simplest solution I can think of is to give her some kind of shawl to put over her shoulders, to go with the dress. If symmetry is an issue, give a shawl to all the girls. Or choose different dresses in the same color.
The friend should not be subjected to feeling like her personal appearance is offensive, if the bride wants to remain friends with this woman. Since the bride chose the bridesmaid and presumably also the dress, which she must have known would show the tattoos...it's a bit late to be objecting to the tattoos.

There is a tattoo cover up sold at David's Bridal that is amazing. It's super thick and kind of messy, but it covers. It comes with a couple of different skin shades and a powder.
THe other thing is that she can use pancake/stage make-up or stuff that looks like little pieces of skin. You stick it on and smoothe it over with makeup. Unfortunately, these are all created for stage, tv. movies, and such, and you will be able to see them close up, but they should fool the camera. Try a special effects make-up store or "hollywood" make-up place that can help you out.

I remember researching the same thing for my wedding 7 years ago because part of the tattoo stuck out and the bridesmaid didn't like it. We were able to re pin the dress but we did find tattoo cover up at Nordstrom but did not use it so I can't say the result. I would go there.

Let me first say, I don’t like tattoos, I don’t like them on men and I don’t like them on women. Based on what I see everywhere; the workplace, church, shopping malls, high schools, colleges, the street and other countries, I am in the minority and happy to be there.

Having said that, I think the dress a bridesmaid wears for a nice wedding should either flatter her tattoo, (meaning it can be fully seen). A partially covered tattoo just looks tacky, especially to those who appreciate a tattoo as art. Many people who have tattoos really like them and are not ashamed to show them or be seen in public.

Being asked to take part in a wedding is an honor which is usually bestowed on a close friend or family member unless the bride is being pressured to do things someone else’s way. (i.e. “One of OUR bridesmaids”)

My suggestion would be for your daughter and her bridesmaid to look for just the right dress, if they can’t find one, perhaps they could have one made. (Her colors could be easily matched). Let the planning, events leading up to the big day and especially the wedding day be a happy occasion not bogged down with silly details that won’t matter when all is said and done.

Would you ask a bald person to wear a wig? Would you ask a heavy person to lose weight?

I think finding a nice dress that covers the tattoos or a shawl, as others have suggested is the best solution. Asking someone to cover up using make-up sounds kind of offensive. If someone had a scar on their shoulder or back, would your daughter ask them to cover up with make-up as well? If she asked this person to be a bridesmaid knowing about the tattoos, then she should find a dress that covers them nicely. It is probably the more tactful solution.

I know Kat Von D from La Ink has a line of tattoo cover up that works great I hear. I think you can get it from Saphora but I would try just looking it up with her name online first to make sure

When I got married I needed to cover a tattoo on my back shoulder. I used a product called Dermablend. They used to carry it at Macy's; that is where I got it! First you rub a cream on it, then a powder to set it (which keeps it from rubbing off on your clothes) and then there is a remover. I never used the remover; it came off eventually. If you go to Macy's they can match a color to her and she can try it on. I hope this helps and good luck!!!

Bring her to Sephora. Ask one of the sales people for some help. They have samples of all the products out and will help with figuring out how to really cover the tattoos. The makeup is more expensive than regular drugsore brands, but worth every cent, and they are usually good about giving you free samples to try out, and you can return opened items. I had a face cleanser that I used for a few days, didn't work for my skin, so I returned it for a full refund. No problems.

Ditto on previous entry - heard Kat Von D for Sephora tattoo cover up is awesome. I'd try that.

I would suggest talking to a theatre company or a tattoo shop for what they recommend for temporary tattoo cover up.

The other option is to choose a different style of dress. Or not worry about it. As the previous poster said, the bride chose the bridesmaid and the desses. I'm going to assume the bride knew the person already had these tattoos. So the bridesmaid shouldn't be made to feel like she HAS to cover them.

rather large tat covered up for an udition. They used stage mae-up although I do not know the name or where they got it. You may be able to google stage make up. I know it seems to be pretty thick. I just wish people would think before getting a tattoo in the first place. Especially when they get it on the lower back, butt or breasts cause they are not gonna be pretty when gravity takes place and the one on the back is now on a saggy butt.

Have her try to cover them up with Mary Kay cosmetics concealer (first try the green, then the yellow concealer)under a skin tone make up. The yellow is used for dark circles under the eyes and green is used for dark green/red skin blotches on the face. It's worth a try. Then follow with her regular skin tone make up. Good luck to you.
