Taking off a Bandaid...

I have to add on this. My daughter loves bandaids. Seriously people give them to her as gifts. She pulls them off herself...and has since she was two.

When she gets a really sticky one she comes to me. Then I count to three, and pull fast. She says OUCH!!! then laughs like a loon and asks for more.

Water, after a shower or bath they usually slide right off. I used to also use a squirt bottle to get it really wet.

Maybe I'm a terrible mom, but I just left the bandaids on until they came off on their own in the bath! :)

my son wears a clonidine patch that we change once a week, so taking off band aids is something i know a lot about! what i have found that works the best is what another mom suggested, aquaphor!

grasp the edge of it between your forefinger and thumb and then pretend sneeze and yank!

Yep, the bath tub-- take it off when you're drying them off afterwards!

I have not looked at other responses, but I am sure they said to just do it fast. One thing I have noticed, the cheap bandaids, like from the 99 cent shop, do not cling that tight, so the next day they are so easy to pull off. Since they are cheap, you can keep replacing if necessary. With those, I do not have to deal with the pain of the tight sticking bandaid AT ALL.

Saturate it with baby oil then scratch it little by little aroiund edges, working it looser till it comes off.

Oil helps loosen it so its not sticky :-)
You can probably use any type. I know baby oil works :-)

really fast is my tip. Or have them take it off themselves. Or do it in the bathtub.

i count.. 1.2.3 and tear it on 2 lol... or i give my daughter the choice does she want me to do it my way (fast) or is she going to do it.

I take a Qtip and swab it in alcohol (or you can use vinegar) and use it around the edge.. as it slowly comes up (the alcohol and vinegar both dissolve the adhesive glue) you dab the swab again, and swipe under the edge as you slowly peel back the bandaid. It takes a minute or two---but totally makes it feel better. Just rub/swab and pull back all simultaneously, swab right along the leading edge of what is stuck.

The trick is to buy the right band aid in the first place. Dont ask me which one it is. But some stick like they were meant to last a life time, others slide off before the kid stops crying from the boo boo. Others stay on nicely and come off without pain. Ive bought some of each over the years. You just need to try different ones until you find the right ones. Wasnt that a lot of help? lol

The bath-tub :) give it a good soak while they play, and it will come off easily :)

Just yank it off FAST....then rub it out.

I use aquaphor (or vaseline). Rub it on the bandaid and it loosens the adhesive. I like those better than oil because they are used for wound protection themselves. The only problem is that you have to really clean the spot if you are just changing the bandaid and want to apply the new one. Otherwise the new bandaid won't stick.

I hate pulling them off too. I've used Goo Gone on it before! LOL

Soaking the bandaid will actually make it fall off painfree and without your kids even noticing it, so give them a bath or shower. If theres no time for a bath or shower add water, lotion or vitamin e oil to the area under the bandaid as you slowly peel it back.

This makes me laugh. My son had a really bad scrape down his leg. My husband put a huge bandaid on it. Well it is so sticky, I am still working to get the edges off. I tried pulling it really fast and it actually chaffed his skin, he screamed. I did the bath thing and let him pull at it himself. I cut off the middle part of the bandaid, and used baby oil to keep working the sticky part that is still stuck on his leg. He still has about half of the outer edges still stuck, we are still working at it.

i think its going to hurt either way but at least if you rip it off real quick all in one shot it only hurts for a second.. pulling a bandaid off slow is like torture

well i do agree with bethyskids :) it's one of those life lessons. it's only a tiny bit of pain for a split S.. i expect my 5 year old to squirm and whine, and then get over it.

but if there is a bath night coming up i might conveniently "forget" to take it off till then.

Rip that sucker off! It only hurts for a second.

I agree. I hate doing it, too. My solution: let them take it off themselves. They can control how much it hurts or how fast. For a while you have to put up with it taking forever to change bandages, but after a few years they just rip it off.

Try using vitamin E oil. Put it all over the bandaid and gently pull. It should take it off with no problem.
