Figs might be a bit seedy for a baby. I'm not sure, since I'm allergic to fresh figs, but you should be good as long as you can avoid the seeded parts and just give tiny pieces of the fruit flesh. I would avoid the high-citric acid fruits like fresh oranges and fresh grapefruits for a little while, because those can cause NASTY diaper rashes if your baby's body can't process the citric acid. Other than that, all fruits are good, as long as you're careful of peels/skins, cut them up very, VERY tiny and give only small amounts, one at a time, until you know how your baby's digestive system handles them.

Actually, you can give your child anything, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, that doesn't pose a choking hazard and isn't a known family food allergen.

At 8 months, I would not personally choose to give my children figs because of the choking hazard (unless pureed).

Otherwise, the recommendation is to try foods one at a time, to see if there are any reactions, and move on from there.

But, always best to verify with your pediatrician to make sure they're OK. AAP guidelines are ALWAYS changing. Our kids are 21 months apart, and they've already reversed their opinions on swaddling and introducing foods based upon new research and evidence.

R., I know that Figs work well as a laxitive so for a baby you might want to use caution.

I love fresh figs and when I was little my Dad used to mash them up and we would eat them on toast...yummy! I think if you were to feed them to her like this, they would be fine. Figs and the beach are 2 of my fondest memories of growing up in California...here in Washington, we have no beaches and we have no fresh ripe figs, it's a bummer.

This is a good site, for info.

You also need to stay away from dried fruits... it is a choking hazard. And an 8 moth old cannot chew it well enough yet.

Figs... if mashed and/or pureed... might be fine.
It has to be real soft.... mashed, like baby food.
But it has a LOT of seeds.
I would not.

Or ask your Pediatrician.

ALSO, Kiwi fruit... do not give.
It is highly allergenic causing serious reactions. I know because my daughter is allergic to it. It can cause great pain/tingling in the mouth/swelling of the tongue, throat and mouth as well, causing asphixiation etc.

If you mush them, I'm sure the texture is ok for a baby. However, I'm allergic to the latex in the skins, so I imagine a little baby could also have some sensitivity. I would just peel them first.
