I am kind of new to this one again. My daughter really likes regular milk, but the doctors say do not give it to her until she is a year old. We had to experiment with her because the put her on Alimentum for a "lactose intolerance" and "soy intolerance". I experimented with the milk like her doctor said, but now she doesn't want to go back to formula. The only problem is...I don't mind keeping her on milk, but now she wont sleep through the night like she did with the formula. Any tips?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay first off, she is no longer 4 months. LOL. Sorry, I have never changed that. She is 10 months. So if you all could give me advice based on 10 months that would be great! LOL. Sorry for that!

Of course she likes the taste of milk over formula--have you ever tasted formula?
There is a reason why kids are supposed to stay on formula or breastmilk for a year--their gut is truly not ready for cow milk and cow milk doesn't have the vitamins and minerals they need for brain development.
I BEG you not to keep her on milk. My SIL just took her 8mo old in for seizures...she was giving him cow milk and maltomeal instead of formula and baby cereal. His red blood cells weren't getting oxygen to his brain adequately causing seizures. Also, he was behind developmentally.
Stay on the formula. If you keep with the cow milk, you may damage your daughters brain, or stunt her development...something no mother would want for their child!

Hello J.. I might not be understanding your delima, it sounded to me like you are looking for ways to get your little one (4 months old) to drink formula after drinking cows milk?
Well, if that is your situation, I suggest mixing the two together. Make a 6oz bottle with 4oz formula and 2oz of regular milk. Then, start dwindling down the amt of regular milk in the formula. Also, I think you should still be able to give her the regular milk when you feed her off of a spoon, I would just mix it with the formula (possibly half and half) and give it to her in a cup.
I think your baby needs the formula and if your Dr said to start experimenting with regular milk (experimenting generally means giving the baby small amts) it should be fine for her to still get some. I am sure if there was a scientific connection between having regular milk too early and disorders your Dr wouldn't have suggested it.
If she isn't sleeping through the night it could be b/c of several things. A) weather changes mess with babies sleeping, B) she might be going through a growth spirt, C) she may need to eat more off of a spoon during the day, D) she might be sleeping through the day too much. But she most likely isn't getting enough to eat during the day and having a growth spirt.
Best of Luck!

I would NOT take her off Formula either, Shes way too young for that and she needs all the things the formula offers right now at her age. Shes just a lil one so she will adapt to the tatse again. Maybe add some cereal to flavor it up or a lil juice but not too much, it could cause constipation or the other way around. I would ask your dr, since he is the one who tol du to try it out. I cant believe he wanted u to do that at such a young age thou! Wow...I had to find out the hard way. My son too was on that same formula and I didnt know until it was too late about the allery. He had to get a scope done to see what was goin on bcuz he had SEVERVE Diahrea-I mean Bad all the time and his bottom would just bleed because of it.

He still to this day cant drink milk hardly and we "TRY" to limit dairy, which is very hard to do. Hes 8 now and were still fighting it!

Good luck

I agree with Bobbi ... keep the baby on formula! I don't have any advice on how to get her to drink it, but it is absolutely vital that all babies have breast milk or formula for their first year.

Good luck!

We had a problem getting my son to switch from formula to milk. What we did was we mixed the 2 together. I would sugest doing it the opposite that we did and slowly weaning her off the milk onto the formula. This is what method we used...2 ounces of milk to 6 ounces of formula for 3 days then 4 ounces of milk and 4 ounces of formula for 3 days then 6 ounces of milk and 2 ounces of formula for 3 days then just milk and he did well. I would try it what could it hurt. Good luck let me know how it works
