Hi A.!

I highly recommend Murray Callan (there are two: San Marcos & Pacific Beach). My daughter is 16 months and has been swimming now for almost 6 months. The results are simply amazing and their teaching technique is equally amazing. It's very rewarding for both of us and a great investment! Good luck & have fun!

Hi!
I have been bringing my 11 mo old son to swimming lessons at the Mission Valley YMCA for the last few months. He loves it! The instructors vary, we've been going at different times so we have had several, some are awesome some are just okay. He mostly just likes splashing in the pool with the other babies...but he has learned some skills (floating on his back, swimming after a toy, etc.) I would just look for an instructor that focuses on being comfortable and having fun in the water...nothing too intense. Training for the Olympic swim team can wait a few years. :O)

Hi! I personally think that Murray Callan is the best. That being said, my son started at Noonan at 10 months and did great. At that young of an age it is more about getting them to used to the water than anything and Noonan was great for that. They also let you swim once a week which was plenty at that age. However, when my son turned two I moved him to murray callan because I really wanted him to swim and I didn't feel he was progressing too much at noonan. Within a session at murray callan he was swimming across the pool by himself, it was awesome. He is now 3 and a great swimmer. We just started again with him and my almost one year old at murray callan and it has been great.they are definitely strict about their policies, they have to do 3 days a week their first session and then can go down to two in the off season. In the summer they have to swim 3 days a week, but, it works! Good luck!

Hi, A. - at 10 months, your baby is the perfect age for getting comfortable with the water. There are many infant swim programs in San Diego - many of them are advertised in the Family magazine that you can pick up at grocery stores. That being said, I opted to put my daughter (when she was 7 months) in a swim playgroup instead of formal swimming lessons. It is cost-effective as the cost of the teacher was split by the moms (no more than $15/4 sessions) and my daughter loves to watch the other kids (ages 3 months - 4 years). I go to AquaPros in Clairemont, and found my swim playgroup through my mothers' group called Moms and Tots San Diego. AquaPros also offers private lessons (www.aquapros.org) and the pool is saline instead of chlorine. Other options are Floaties in Poway (privates only), McCallan, and tons others!

I HIGHLY recommend Floaties Swim School in Poway.
I researched for a long time before deciding to go with them.
I use Mr. Tim & he is GREAT!
My daughter was very challenging but he had lots of patience and worked with her alot. She can't get enough of the place now!
All the teachers there are very good with the kids!
Its 3:1 student/teacher ratio and a salt water system.

Hi A.,
I got my daughter in swim lessons around 9/10 months...she really liked them. It was a lot of fun, some day's she enjoyed more than others. The only times she would get really fussy were when visitors would come to watch (grandma/grandpa)..they would totally distract her and she would want to get out and see them. So, I would recommend doing them with only one parent. I just recently moved from San Diego, so unfortunately I don't have anywhere to refer for lessons. Hope is goes well...enjoy!
