I only have 1 and another on the way but from what I recall with the first I didn't swell really bad at all until AFTER I had given birth. My feet were so swollen it was like walking on pillows. I think I had to take my rings off about a month before my little one made her big entrance. But beyond those two things I stayed un-poofy for nearly all of the entire experience. Drink a lot of water and eat salty thing in moderation and you may get lucky!!

Bodies can retain fluid and/or swell at any time. Pregnancy makes it more likely, late pregnancy -- even more likely, sitting or standing for long periods even MORE likely. Hopefully you won't have problems this time just because you did last time. Only time I ever remember my legs/ankles swelling with any of my 4 pregnancies was with the last on a long trip (to my husband's cousin' wedding) about 2 weeks before delivery. May you be so blessed!

Sodium will increase swelling when your adrenal hormone cortisol is out of whack.

Swelling is not "normal" in the sense that not all pregnant people have swelling. I was 50-100 lbs overweight with all 3 pregnancies and did not have any swelling.

I never swelled, so I suppose it varies.

Hi T.,
It is normal for you to retain water and experience slight swelling. I encourage you to stay hydrated and try to take breaks throughout the day to put your feet up.

Also, check out http://www.blueribbonbaby.org

Dr. Brewer had done extensive research on women and pregnancy up until his death in 2005. There is a wealth of information here to include pregnancy diet, the role of nutrition, pre-eclampsia and pregnancy induced hypertension, to name a few.

Congrats on your pregnancy.
Peace,
J.

It's been a few years for me (my youngest is 15) but as I remember my feet and ankles started swelling during the third trimester. I can't be more specific than that.
