Hey there ladies, I was wondering if I could get a few suggestions on lotions with sunscreen in them. I use the regular sunblock when we are out in the sun for long periods of time, but am looking for one with at least an SPF 15 in a lotion so I can go out for short periods of time without burning.( I have a 15 minute grace period, my daughter 30) Plus my daughter does not fight regular lotion. I have been using the Olay, but it will break the bank this summer because it is used on faces and arms. I am looking for something that is a good moisturizer, not too smelly, and one that is not oily so it wont plug pores. I would prefer it be reasonably priced as well. ( paying $8 for 4 oz is bad) Thank you for your suggestions.

I like this website

http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/

It has sunscreen, lotion, and other products rated and lets you know the 'score' number of toxins.

Neutrogena has one that blocks both UVA and UVB rays, and it's great. I use it on myself and my toddler and he doesn't even care. It is SPF 75, which seems like overkill but it works well for us as we are both very fair skinned.

Go to Cosmeticsdatabase.com to invesitage the contents of your sunscreen. There are contents that actually can be harmful. It doesn't matter if it is oil of olay or store brand, most ingredients are the same and it is the name you are paying for.
Zinc oxide is the best protection from the sun and you want UVA And UVB covered.
They are saying now the Oxybenzone and other "O" ingredients can cause cancer...go figure.
I am with that they need protection regardless and sunscreen has been around forever, but looking up what products you use on this site will be eye opening to say the least.
I discussed it with my dermotologist and they sell chemical free and safe sunscreens but they are costly...so just depends on where you go for them.
They say the best protection is SPF clothing and hats to cover your face and using the products sparingly!
Good luck.

I use Eucerin Daily Replenishing and it has SPF 15 in it. I love it. Nothing makes my skin (Or elbows!) softer! I even use it on my face when I am in a pinch. It is kinds spendy for lotion, but less than the Olay. I pay $8.00 a bottle, but it is a large bottle, and that lasts me two months or more. Hope this helps!

If the Olay works well for you, I would suggest that you continue to use it for your face if you're looking for a lotion/moisturizer, and choose another option for your arms--and for your daughter.

My physician recommended Neutrogena sunscreen with helioplex as a relatively inexpensive store option--she suggested the Ultra Sport version (spf 70). Here's the important part, however. You need to store it--or any other sunscreen--in the refrigerator. According to the doctor, sunscreens begin to break down and lose their effectiveness if they get warmer than 70 degrees. So that means that if you take it outdoors, you also need to keep it in your cooler as well. Her other "must": replace sunscreen at least yearly, if not every few months for maximum effectiveness.

BTW: My six-year old doesn't fight this sunscreen--he actually thinks its awesome because it's cool on his skin.

We end up with a lot of different lotions on our counter in the summer. I use an Aveeno facial moisturizer every day, then we have a body lotion with SPF 15 sunscreen in it that Lubriderm makes, then SPF 70 suncreens from Coppertone or whatever was on sale. I have my kids put the Lubriderm on their face and hands when we get dressed so they have a base layer of protection so to speak. I really like it, it goes on smoothly and doesn't leave that greasy, sticky feel on your skin.

I go to an amazing skin care doctor who recommended Bullfrog. You can buy this at walmart or any drugstore. She is extremely well known for her knowledge on all skin types and how to take care of your skin inexpensively.

Hi, K. - I would like to share a few thoughts on this. My daughter used to have a real issue with lotions and other things on her skin. Choosing the lotion or sunscreen could be a big deal for us, too. I am very happy to be a part of a company called Arbonne, who manufactures European-quality products in the USA. Those products include botanically-based sunscreen for babies up to adults, along with lotion for different skin types. You will find these products have a feel much different from others. Plus, they are great on and for your/your child's skin.

If you want to check these out, please visit our website, www.feelpure.myarbonne.com. I'd be happy to meet with you by phone or in person and tell you more about the products. Feel free to contact me for more information. All the products are money-back guaranteed for up to 45 days. I hope you find this helpful - I truly love the products! D.

For your daughter, buy a new brand of sunscreen and tell her it is lotion so she won't fight it. If you can find one with "lotion" on the bottle you could even point that out to her that it is lotion.
For you, I have no suggestions. I love this new Eucerin for sensitive skin lotion with SPF 18, but it's even pricier than what you mentioned unless its on a good sale (which is when I got mine). I'll be checking back on this since my 1 year old is sensitive to the baby sunblock I bought and has really, really fair skin. UGH!

My sister was using a regular lotion with sunscreen spf15 the other day. I think it may have been lucerin? it was a squarish sized bottle with a pump. I would just check the lotion isle at Walmart and see what they have.

Walmart makes an Olay knock-off for faces. I've used that for a few years w/few problems & I don't think it's got much of a smell. Hubby says it does, but since you're not trying to put it on a man, it's all good!
Or you could make your own. Buy whatever body lotion you like, pour some into a travel container & fill the rest up w/some sunscreen. Daughter won't know the difference & any smell you may have should be diluted by the regular lotion. I like to scent my basic lotions w/the Bath & Body Works more expensive stuff-never tried it w/sunscreen but if the B&BW stuff works I don't see why sunscreen wouldn't.

we like Lubriderm. the SPF 15 one is purple. my husband uses it on his face. i use it on arms and legs and use olay on my face because it's slightly less oily than the lubriderm. and lubriderm is the one lotion that my son doesn't complain about stinging his skin. but after reading other posts, i think i want to try eucerin to see if there is a difference.

I love Eucerin as well although I'm not crazy about the pump on the bottle. It keeps my dry skin soooo soft!

i usually buy a nice sunscreen like Olay or Neutrogena for faces, and a cheap one like No-Ad for arms and legs. just make sure you read ingredients and get one with avobenzone in it. other ingredients may block the UVB rays that cause burns, but that ingredient blocks the UVA rays that cause cancer. as far as SPF goes, 15 is as good as 80 if you just reapply often.

I like the Lubriderm product. I've also been buying the knock-offs of the Olay - the smaller bottle is nice to have in my purse for when we're out.

Sadly, the general rule of thumb is going to be that less expensive stuff is going to have more fillers, feeling greasy and taking a lot more to be effective.
Also, as you get about SPF 45-ish the number becomes meaningless (45 isn't necessarily 3 times as good as 15, and beyond that it really drops).

I love Mary Kay's sunscrean. It is not greasy, and almost feels like a lotion. It's thick and doesn't take as much to get the coverage. It's not cheap, but it goes farther than the watery greasy stuff I used to buy at the store, and I think it works better, too. Go to www.marykay.com to find a consultant in your area.
