Hello to all. We were in the "shade" all day and our 9 month old is sun-burned soooo bad. it is on his face and arms. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
I would use some Noxzema(sp?). I am really fair and that is what my mom used to do as well. I have not had to do that with my lil ones but that is what I would use. You could try some tea tree oil as well. Hopefully they didn't blister!!!!!
Hi my name is S. and I am the mother of three children. Two boys and a girl. My children and I have very sensitive skin and what we have found to work good is to apply cool milk compress to the affected skin soothes the skin. Pour a small bowl of milk, soak a washcloth in it for a minute and lay on skin for a few minutes. Wait 15 minutes and try again. I know it sounds kinda of strange, but it seems to take the heat out and help the skin heal.

Hi! Vitamin E. My grown kids will fight over the bottle if they have a sunburn. They don't want the aloe or the lotions they fight over the bottle of Vitamin E. I think it's Natures Own or Natures Best something like that. I think I got it at Walgreens.

I use an aloe gel every few hours when one of us gets burnt. You can get it at just about any store in with the sunscreen. Keep it in the ice box to give that extra cool sensation when you rub it on. Also, give your little man a cool bath with a cap full of apple cider vinegar every night. Vinegar is pratically a cure all. Don't use lotion, anything with oil in it or soap on the burn. This will irritate the skin and hold in the heat making the burn worse. I hope your son heals soon.

In addition to the topical treatments don't forget to give him regular doses of Motrin and Tylenol. You can check with a Pharmacist on dosage amount based on his weight and can alternate the medicines so that he always has some kind of pain relief. This will help keep him comfortable. Also, he needs to drink lots of water to keep hydrated.

Try a mixture of Vitamin E oil and aloe vera gel. The oil is a wonderful healing aid and the aloe vera soothes the sting of the sun burn. A little bit goes a long way. I use this mixture for all sort of ills, such as scrapes and cuts too. Good luck.

The very best is what Mother Nature provides - Aloe. If you can get the plant itself that would be the most beneficial. Use the liquid from the leaf. If not, I would recommend Aloe Vera gel which you can pick up most anywhere.

Get an actual Aloe plant, probably a big one, and slice open the leaves and spread the juice on his skin. It is the best thing in the world for burns. Its pure too, so when it absorbs into his skin you won't be bringing any contaminants from lotions. It may sting at first so use it on a small area first.

I second the aloe. Also a health food store will have a homeopathic cream that's good for burns.

Boil some caffine tea and then put it in the freezer and get it really cold, almost slushie. Then put a rag in it and ring it at a little bit not much and then put it on the burn. Believe me this works. You do this until the rag does not get warm or hot fast. It may take a couple of times a day to get the burn to stop hurting. This is something that works and doesn't cost a lot of money.
My dad got a 2nd degree burn in the sun and this is what the specialist told my mom to do for him.

S. B,
You might try rubbing vinegar on the sunburn, it will take out the burn. It smells bad, but it works. Good luck!

Im sure you use sunscreen, but after a sunburn, one thing you can do is soak a rag with vinegar and rub the child down with it. It pulls out the sting and heat.

Bathe him in tepid bath with Epsom Salt. I was burned very badly this summer and a 20 minute soak in the tub really helped me. The burn was gone the next day!

A&D ointment, the brown one is awesome. It does not smell the best, but almost instantly removes the burn. It also lasts a long time with relief and can be applied as often as you want. In my opinion, aloe vera and noxema only provide temporary relief and with vinegar why put up with the sting. Also, with a baby this young, if it is that bad, you may want to bring him to the dr just in case.

Lots of Aloe Vera, cool baths, lotion to try and prevent peeling. My mom is a nurse and suggested that I put Vinagar on her burn that stuff stinks but it takes the heat out. My 8 year old forgot to have the rec-n-roll staff re-apply and came home sunburnt (she hardly ever burns) and ended up having a few blisters and I took her to the dr. and the dr. said to keep doing what I was doing.

If you have an aloe plant or know someone who does, snap off a piece and squeeze the juice onto his burn and rub in...its a bit slimy, but all natural so you don't have to worry about what you are putting on your baby. Also, keep him well hydrated because a bad sunburn can cause dehydration, and a bit of Motrin or Ibuprofen if there is any swelling. Good luck!!!

Sunscreen, as a fair complected person I will burn just as easily in the shade, on a cloudy day, and through my clothes! Foille or Dermaplast or something may help him with some of the discomfort. Do not put cold rags or cold water or butter or whatever. Aloe Vera comes in bottles in some pharmacy's or health food stores. My personal remedy would be too painful for the baby but it works wonders right after a sunburn.....a hot shower. Yes! No matter how hot the water is - it is probably not as hot as the skin and will slowly pull out the burn, I also don't peel with this method....but it would be too much of a shock for the baby. I see where people are saying a cool bath....but that will blister. Be very careful and be sure to get him some pedialyte and banana's because he will dehydrate
