I have a family friend, son of a friend's, son living with me right now. He is a nice boy, well behaved and tall. He doesn't have any real experience working. Any real suggestions on jobs for him, places he could work. Not mowing lawns or paper route. More of an established businesses where he could learn about the world of working for someone, being on time, making money, dealing with people .... He needs some real life exposure.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

You have come up with some great ideas already. Keep 'em coming. Since he isn't my kid I'm not too sure what will appeal to him yet. He could work with kids but I don't think he'd really want to. He'd be good with animals but don't know what he'd think yet. He would probably really like Starbucks. With all of your ideas it puts me in a good place of suggestions and discussions to figure out what to go after. Thanks SO much.

Try checking out some local restraunts. They are more than happy to get kids in there for after school jobs bussing tables or working the register. They understand that they can't over work him since he is only 15 and he still falls under the child labor laws. It will get his feet wet.

Try dog boarding kennels. They sometimes hire 15 year olds to help clean and play with the dogs. It is a lot of physical work though so he'd better be really ready to work hard ;)

Maybe a grocery store. Market Street just opened here and they have a lot of teens helping with bagging, etc. I know it is already a teen place to go as well.

I've heard that Starbucks hires around age 14. My animal hospital has teens helping. What about the Y helping with summer camps?

Good luck finding something!

He could always work for a grocery store. There are many different job titles, maybe one of them will appeal to him. Good Luck!
