We gave my MIL an engraved iPod, and she loves it. They engrave it for free if you buy from the apple store online.
Hi ladies. My mother is turning 50 this year, so my sister and I want to give her something special. We agreed to have something engraved, but we can't figure out what to engrave on, or what it should say. Obviously we would want the quote to reflect that it is a gift from both of us. My mom has WAAAAY too much jewelry, so that isn't an option. Any suggestions are deeply appreciated. Oh, another thing, we are NOT religious. So leave the big man out of it:)

Well if she has a lot of jewelry what about a jewelry box? Or you could engrave a pretty clock....like the kind you see on people's fire place mantels. And you could say something about "time" in it.....like "thank you for all fun times" or "as time goes by you are still the most wonderful mother"....I don't know but something like that.
We bought my parents & grandmother gifts from getetched.com (http://www.getetched.com/personalized-granite.html). They have granite (marble, glass, etc) etchings that are beautiful. They also have boxes and such--we sent a photo of a childhood home & the results were gorgeous. Good luck!
How about a personlized scrapbook that you gius have put together...or, for my Mom's 60th birhtday, we got her a wooden jewlry box with a picture of all of us togther engraved on the top..SO BEAUTIFUL! We found it at www.stampworldonline.com.
How about a nice clock. Some designs would have room for engraving. Then you could even say something about how time spent together is well spent, or something like that.
Well, I guess I don't have too many suggestions, since I don't know what your mom might like, but maybe a nice picture frame with a photo of all of you? Or a collage frame or a photo quilt that you can put photos from past years to present or somthing like that? I always get catalogs from this company called Personal Creations (they have a website too www.personalcreations.com). They personalize just about darn near anything. I ordered one of the valet boxes (think that is what they are called anyway...) for my husband's dresser to hold his ribbons and name plate (military) and all his assorted stuff. They engraved his initials on it. I also ordered a really cute coffee mug from our daughter to him for Father's Day last year and that turned out really nice as well. Their shipping was reasonable, and I didn't think the prices in the catalog were outrageous or anything. So maybe their website might give you some ideas. Good luck and happy birthday to Mom! :)
Does she like art? If so find a picture of a mother, maybe doing something that reminds you of your mother, or just a picture of a place or something that reminds you of your mother. Have the engraving put on the frame. i love the quote by Abraham Lincoln. You might want to look it up for exactness but it is this: "Everything I am I owe to my mother." (you could even change it to everything WE are etc.
There's also" The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rocks the world"
You cold get some nice kitchen knives with her name on it of the family name or a little quote.
Does she like to garden? You could get a nice garden bench with an engraving on it. My father in law did that up at their cabin and it is really cute. Does she have a favorite poem or song? You could look in some poem or quote books fro ideas. Good luck.
Hey M.;
Things Remembered has these pretty blankets that have sayings stitched on them and you can add personal stuff like Love your daughters M. and ____________
Good luck
You know, you could do a decorative plate, or a silver plate that she could display.
Have someone take a nice picture of the 3 of you together...if you don't already have one... and then get a silver frame and have that engraved. Things Remembered has some nice and reasonably priced options. You can look up some quotes online about mothers and daughters. I guarantee it will be her favorite gift! Good luck with your nice idea!
If you want to drop some cash Tiffany has absolutely gorgeous solid sterling picture frames and alot of other sterling silver items they can engrave. This is definately heirloom quality stuff. Good luck!
I go to redenvelope.com to get gifts for people who have everything. It's not expensive and has a good variety of creative, original items; I've seen lots of things that can be engraved for an additional fee and some extra shipping time. Good luck!
If she's got tons of jewelry, what about a pretty wooden jewelry box to hold (a few of) her favorite things w/a gold/silver plate engraved with her name & something cutesy like "the best gem/jewel isn't in the box, it's you"
Or one of those laser-etched crystals w/her name & a rose
If your mother has way to much jewelry, what about a jewelry box you can have something engraved on that references What a jewel she is to you and your sister.
My husband got me one of those picture frame jewelry boxes that hang on the wall. It wasn't expensive and I LOVE it!! I have pictures of all my children and him and us...I think it's fantastic. He got a rather large one...I'd say a about two feel long, almost as wide and about 3 inches deep.
You could say something about how the world is a better place with her in it. Or how bout you go get her a trophy for crossing the 50 year finish line! lol...yeah, that'd be more humorous for a relationship that appreciates huge jokes...but you could do something like that...a trophy and crown from Michael's or another crafty type store and tell her she's Ms. World Mom or Woman or whatever you like, Queen of the World...something cheesy yet very heartfelt...make sure you get a really nice tiara and awesome trophy/plaque. You know, we all like princess parties when we're little and so many look at the 50th birthday as OLD so you can play on that by telling her she's young, beautiful, and "rules" the world. lol
If she has a quote she particularly likes, a philosophy, or something, you can use something like that and have it put on a plaque setup that also has a vase attached to it for her favorite flowers.
Maybe you can get her a new watch (or clock for that matter) with a personalized band--y'all could create yourselves or purchase--have the back of the watch say something about the hands of time, or how timeless her beauty is, or...umm...how bout how you and your sister will love her until the end of time....of you'll love her long after time stops moving....or, you know...something that sounds like you that's wound up in time referring to her. If she doesn't like wearing a watch you can get one that she wears around her neck or just go with a clock.
Another thing, if you find something you really like but can't engrave on the item you decide on...just have it printed up in a really nice script, mat and frame it to be put on her wall or her desk. ...oh, you can also do those tiles with the lettering that hang from a ribbon or sit in a small (great! what's that thing called...?) easel...or a beautiful mirror that you rub out the silver backing and place it behind--you could that with your pictures, too, so that every time she looks in the mirror she can see the two of you looking back...
Well, anyway...there's some of my ideas...hope that gets the ball rolling for you... :o)
