I would suggest warm compresses (warm, wet washcloth) on his eye for as long as he can stand it a few times a day. Plus, wash his hands a lot becuase if he has pink eye it is contagious. Also, wash his pillowcase. Good luck!

You could try just regular eye drops for dry eyes but since pink eye is so contagious, I would either go to the ER or a Dr's Care (some sort of urgent care center) if your insurance pays for it or you can afford it.

Good luck.

If you think you could do it without scaring him, you could do saline rinses. Do them yourself first to get the salt measurement right. About 1/4 tsp table salt or neti pot salt to 1 cup luke warm water. Pour in a shot glass. Cover the eye with the top of the shot glass and lean back and forth several times letting the saline rinse the eye.

If he cannot do that, you may put him in a epsom salt and peroxide bath. 1 cup epsom salt, 1/2 bottle peroxide in the tub. Play dive for the underwater octopus or something silly to get him to go underwater and have the need to open his eyes.

Seems hokey, but it really works. The peroxide bath is amazing .

Bring water to a boil and add some salt, about 1 teaspoon for a cup. Allow to cool to body temperature and apply with a cotton ball. This method has been around over 100 years and it does work wonders. V.

He may have an ear infection. Sometimes ears will cause the eyes to look like pink eye. I didn't know this until we had our Ds daughter, who is now 1 1/2 yr. old. Blessings for your son and you.

Similison(sp) has a homopathic eye drops for pink eye, also for earaches and others. You can find them at Walmart or your local pharmacy.

You can use a warm compress, several (about 3-4) times a day, held in place for 10-20 min. each time. How often, and for how long would depend on his tolerance and how bad the eye is.
Also, be sure what you use to apply the warm water is absolutely clean, of course and that the water isn't too warm.
Hope your little guy feels better soon!

Pink eye is usually viral, not bacterial. Most often it is the result of a cold virus that we already have getting into the eye. There is nothing a doctor can do for this although many will give antibiotic eye drops. Of course antibiotics do not treat a virus- it will usually clear up on its own in about 24-48 hours. Warm compresses are usually helpful. Keep the eye clean if there is any discharge. It is contagious so obviously don't go around other kids or to playgrounds, etc. Hope your little guy feels better soon and by tomorrow morning you may not need the doctor. http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/c...#
