Styrofoam Containers, What to Do?

When the Simon Deliver's guy made the last delivery here before they closed business, he left the green crates with the styrofoam boxes inside. I'm not sure what to do with them, it doesn't seem right to put them in landfills, but not sure. I tried a free ad on craigslist, but only got tow responses saying that they wanted them, which they never did come to get. Do you think it is safe to just throw them? Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

Those green crates would make great recycling bins! If you can't find a way to reuse them, I'd be glad to take them off your hands.

I'd call them and ask them to pick them up or deliver them back to one of their locations if it's close to you.

Your local food shelf might want them for the container....
Otherwise, could you remove the styrofoam and use the crate for storage yourself?

I'm not sure where you are, but Coon Rapids has a recycling center that accepts styrofoam. They take plastics numbers 1-6. The only thing is that you have to bring the items there. The address is 1831 111th Ave NW (one block east of Hanson, Coon Rapids. This is a pilot program, so I encourage you to take your items there so that we may recycle everything possible. If you are too far from Coon Rapids, try looking up your local county recycling program and see what they offer. Thank you for wanting to help keep toxins away from our water and recycle what we can!

I'd keep them and use them for picnics or outdoor food related events because they're thermal. You know, hot stuff would stay hot longer, cold stuff, cold. If he didn't leave too many, that would be a great use...

I like the idea of just using them for storage boxes too. Similar plastic storage bins/boxes without the styrofoam insides are very expensive to buy. I'd hang on to them and use them for basement or garage storage boxes. Know a college student who needs boxes for moving or storage? They might be good compost boxes too if you take out the foam. Just some ideas.

Just a thought...I think there is another grocery delivery service...maybe google it for your area...I'd contact them and they may have a better idea for you.

Hi - Freecycle seems to have a bigger following than the free section on craigslist. You can find it on the Yahoo groups site, and it is localized by city. Whenever I post things, no matter what it is (even an old sump pump!), I get a lot of responses. Good luck!
