I know the woman who owned Stroller Strides and ironically enough owns the Golds gym in Derry. She says that everyone loved the stroller strides and it is a good work out for all. She just sold it and has trained the woman that runs it now. I would definitly think about it. My little one is now 4 and not in a stroller so I cannot take part. Good luck!

I did StrollerFit in Brookline for over a year and it was amazing. Lost about 40 lbs, to below my pre-pregnancy weight. Funny you mention allergies because my son has severe food allergies too. StrollerFit is fantastic because you keep your child with you.
Diane runs StrollerFit in Brookline. She leads the class so that every level can participate. I hadn't ran since about the 4th grade when I started (these boobs don't run), but now, for the first time in my adult life I actually run. I started off just walking in class and slowly built up to a run.
The classes are indoors during the winter at the Soule Rec Center in Chestnut Hill, and Pine Manor. Then when warmer weather hits it is outside at Lars Anderson Park. It is a great location.
Anyway, hope this helps. Don't know where you live, but I think StrollerStrides is similar in Arlington.

I do Stroller Strides & it is AWESOME! I love working out with my daughter in tow (she actually loves class & comes home & "plays" Stroller Strides).
Our classes are awesome as they are cardio & strength every time & new every day- our instructor modifies the workout for any level so you can always go harder or take it easy. All locations offer at least your 1st class for free- so you won't lose anything by trying it. I've seen huge improvements in my body & strength.
www.strollerstrides.com has all the info you could need. :)
Good luck!

Yes - I do the Stroller Strides in the Nashua Mall and I love it... I thought it was just going to be walking around the mall, but it really is a great full body work out. We do some funny moves, but luckily the mall isn't open yet so there aren't too many people watching us...I highly recommend the class. I hope you join. If you have any other questions send me an email ____@____.com If you do come I think the first class is free and you might want to bring a mat for the floor and a water bottle. Any stroller will do, too.

Hi K.,
I'm in exactly the same situation - looking to work-out but have toddler with food allergies so reluctant to put him in gym nursery. I've recently joined the MAC - the nursery is pricey but they seem really good about the allergies (so far so good). He wears a bright armband to let the staff know. MAc does a similar program to stroller strides in the summer (which of course you pay more for) which last summer was held in gloucester. Would love to know how you get on!
All the best,
S.

K. -
I have been doing stroller strides in Providence since my son wast 7 weeks old (he's almost 11 months old now). I love it and have lost all my baby weight by the time he was 5 months old. Its a great way to meet friends and get out there and its a great work out that is fun. Hope it helps.

Hi, K.!

I am a Navy mom in Newport and tried Stroller Strides in Providence with Lauren Weinsier, the instructor. I didn't feel like I was challenged enough for it to be worth making the haul to go all the way to Providence from Newport. But, it probably depends on what your fitness level is now and what you're used to doing pre-pregnancy. I am a spinning and strength instructor, so was I was ready to be challenged! There is also a program offered at the Newport County YMCA called "Moms in Motion" that is designed for expecting and new moms, but I don't think it involves strollers. Also, I am starting to offer a workshop (very similar to Stroller Strides) once a month through the Newport/Middletown MOMS club. I had to cancel this month due to a family emergency, but I have another one scheduled for 25 April. If you are interested in hooking up with other moms, the MOMS club is a great source for a playgroup, lots of activities for moms and babies/toddlers, and community service. The email for the MOMS club membership chair is: ____@____.com. Alternatively, if you are a military spouse stationed at Newport, I also teach fitness classes on base and am trying to start a class for expecting and new moms similar to Stroller Strides. If you have any more questions or want more info from me, feel free to contact me at ____@____.com luck!

I haven't done Stroller Strides but I have heard good things about it, and my opinion is that you can get a very good workout just using the outdoors and things around you. Look at the boot camp phenomenon - that's what it's based on largely. I do go to a Gold's in Arlington and the day care is awesome... I know you said your son has severe allergies and asthma, that stinks. I am pretty sure they don't allow kids to have food in there, so you might want to recheck and possibly try again?? Either way, I suggest using the gym too, maybe before your husband goes to work or after he gets home, because I can say from experience that Gold's has really helped me lose the baby weight after my youngest was born last June. Now with good weather coming, you would have the stroller workout outside and the gym for things like spinning and weights - you will be the envy of all! Good luck, and I understand exactly where you are coming from!
