Strep Throat - Braintree,MA

I was wondering if anyone has ever suspected there child has had strep throat a few weeks after they may have had it? My child had a low low grade fever, slighlty decreased appetite and a rash for a couple of days- called the pedi and they send pobably viral and to watch it- and call if it got worse. A week later I was diagnosed with Strep and then my older daughter was diagnosed a few days later (my younger daughter was also tested but it was negative). My concern is if my younger daughter had it and the symptoms went away-should we still treat it- would that be important to avoid any potential complications regarding strep down the road (e.g. kidney, heart issues...) Should she have a blood test to determine if the bacteria is in her system? I am not quite sure what to do? Now that I think about it my older daughter had complained of an ear ache a week and a half before she was diagnosed ( the ear ach only lasted the night and was fine the next day) Any thoughts on what to do would be greatly appreciated:-)

What can I do next?

Hello S.,

I am very thankful for my "local herb lady" who gave me the gift of the knowledge of essential oils, particularly using Oregano Oil. Check out this link
http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/oregano.html

You can get essential oils online and you want therapeutic grade and they have truly been a blessing. Oregano is very powerful with Strep. The moment my kids even begin to have any complaints or it's going around in school, I massage the soles of their feet with oregano oil as it has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial properties. If they do have the sore throat already, I mix the 5-6 drops of oregano oil with a "carrier oil" like light olive oil, almond oil, jojoba etc. (about 2 Tbsp) and put it directly on my son's neck. I take a wash cloth and run hot water over it, squeeze out the excess water and place this wonderfully warm cloth on their neck. I repeat this 2-4x that day if they are home sick. I also would suggest studying "colloidal silver". As silly as this may sound, I tell my boys to picture a big bad virus "guy" in their body and then an ARMY of good guys (immune system) attacking it. We laugh when I tell them to say they are as strong as an ox and their immune system is super strong. I have come to see the power of the mind over healing as well.

My boys have NEVER tested positive for Strep and they are 9, 11 and 13. They've had the sore throat yet I know the oregano oil gets into their blood stream and in 20 minutes circulates throughout the body.

Essential oils are excellent for using proactively throughout the cold and flu season and next year you can fly through without any colds. It's possible!

I wish you the best.

In health,
C.

Its always a good idea to call your child's pediatrician and tell them what you wrote here...your concerns are valid. Strep is a funky illness that CAN go away on its own (some people are able to fight it off, but most can't). If your daughter is no longer showing any signs of illness, she may have fought it off... However, I had strep that was untreated as a child in the 70's (I never tested positive with the throat culture, but did finally in the blood test), and it progressed into rheumatic fever and damaged my heart. I had symptoms the whole time (that got progressively got worse and worse), but my doctor did nothing since I kept testing negative to the throat cultures, until my mother demanded something be done to treat my horrid symptoms (that's when I had the blood test and then was hospitalized). That was a totally freak-event that hardly ever happens today, but it is still a good idea to ask your daughter's pediatrician what he/she thinks you should do (ESPECIALLY if your daughter still has some symptoms or white patches on her throat/tonsils). It is always good to alert her doctor that Strep has been diagnosed in the house. Finally, make sure to change your whole family's toothbrushes to ward off reinfection. Good luck, and most likely all is well :-)

Yes, they can get strep throat again (and again and again). Get another culture. They do not have to have a sore throat to have strep. My daughter complains about a sore tummy. A doctor should not deny you a culture based upon what you're telling me! Good luck!

I used to have strep on and off for years. I would have her tested to make sure she isn't a carrier. Sometimes you seem to get better but you havent' gotten rid of the strep and will get sick again later on. Ask you pediatrician what they think. I'm sure they will tell you to come in and make sure she still doesn't have it.

If the symptoms went away- she's probably fine. You want to avoid antibiotics as much as possible! I always wait and see with my two kids. My 6 y/o has only been on antibiotics twice in her life. I've even suggested waiting to her pediatrician- who has been pleasantly surprised.
He says he sometimes prescribes meds just to make the parents happy and that they are usually not necessary. They can cause more harm than good.
Your daughter's immune system probably worked as it was designed and beat the bug on it's own.

My friends son had a rash that she believed was from too much dairy. She brought him to the Dr's and he tested positive for strep, although he had no other symptoms, no fever or sore throat. Another friends son kept getting strep and her daughter although showing no symptoms was a carrier. Good luck and remember you know your child better then the doctor, so keep pushing for what you thi8nk is right for them.

my daughter, when she was young, always felt it before it would show up on any tests. i always asked the dr to leave the culture in 48 hrs rather than the usual 24 and then it showed up. if it continues frequently over a year she may need her tonsils out. good luck.

Unless your daughter is still showing symptoms I wouldn't worry about it but call your ped w/ your concerns anyway
