Hi Moms,

I have strep-throat and am very worried about my 22 month old daughter getting it. I was contagious for a day before I was able to get into a doctor and of course she doesn't understand that mommy is sick and can't be around and with her like I normally am. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it would take if she was exposed to it for her to be infected. I am going to watch for signs and call the doctor as soon as I see any, but I wasn't sure if it would be within a few days or more. Thanks for any help.

What can I do next?

It will take about 2 - 5 days. Whenever my children have ever had strep, the first symptom that they have is stomach ache and vomiting. My children have only had strep a few times in their lives and I always dismiss their first day as a mild stomach ache or stomach flu - the second day was always worse and accompanied by lethargy, fever, the works. Just be aware if your daughter has had the "stomach flu" or has vomited, that you could have caught it from her. My son has even had strep without the severe sore throat.

Don't beat yourself up. Unfortunately with being a mom you get sick too but still have to care for others. I just walk around and disinfect handles of everything (door knobs, toilet knobs, refrigerator, faucets, etc....) for a few days. I use a spray bottle of water w/ a little bleach.

I hope you feel better very soon.

I just came back form the doctor. I have strep throat. The dr. said it is a 7-10 day incubation period. So it could be a week before anyone else would show signs.

Also, remember to change your toothbrush.

I had strep when my kids were 2. I felt absolutely awful and totally out of it. My mom took the kids for me for a night. They never got sick. They were with me the first day or 2 that I didn't feel well. When they were about 6, the doc did a throat test just to see if anything showed and one d did show with strep-but she felt fine. She never showed any fever or anything. We treated all of them just in case. I would call your ped and see what they have to say about it since you are worried.

My daughter was feeling crummy and runny nosed for weeks. Never ran a fever. Over 2 weeks ago I took her to the Dr. cuz her eyes were crusty and ear draining...still no fever. She had strep. They gave her a shot of penicillin and she was fine. This week...I have strep. So, if I were you...I would ask the dr to call in an antibiotic for your daughter and give it to her.

I think it is 2 weeks before you get sick.
