Storing Shelled Pecans

I just bought my brother 3 lbs of shelled pecans for Christmas. They were just sitting out at the Farmer's Market in a ziplock bag, but I wonder if I should put them in the fridge for better storage. Thoughts?

What can I do next?

Yep, freezer. I have had some for a couple of years in there that someone gave me in bulk, and they still taste just fine!

I echo the freezer suggestions! Been doing that for years. Works for other nuts too.

I guess by now you know the best place to keep nuts is in the freezer! LOL! Well, just another tip.....Any food mix with nuts can also be put in the freezer to keep it longer. I sell food mixes and have learned through other folks that if you freeze them they will stay past their expiration dates. Mixes can still be good for a while after the date, but the nuts in them can go bad. Hope you have a big freezer as there are so many things you can put into one to keep things longer and fresh! Enjoy your pecans....

If you're giving them soon, fridge would be fine. Freezing them is great! They'll keep for a few years that way and taste really fresh! You can also set them in your garage if you're giving them at Christmas. This is something I do know about -my family owned a pecan business in central Georgia for 30 years.

Freezer - keep forever that way. But, double or triple bag them to prevent frost bite.
