Does anyone know about Budda TX or Dell Valle ISD in Austin? I've seen some pretty nice houses in Austin ISD and Dell Valle ISD that are in our price range (120k max). My hubby will be working not too far from the Austin-Berstrom Airport & I plan hopefully to stay home with my 2 yr old and my son will be in 6th grade. Im still researching and debating our possible move to the Austin area and just trying to check out all the areas... We are new to this, we currently live in our first house in the DFW area and so we're in the process of finding out out much we can even get for our house, but we're going to drive out to Austin tomorrow and check out some areas... I really want to know the areas I should avoid! Don't want to wind up in "the hood" if you know what i mean!
Thanks fellow mammas for sharing! =)

I would recommend Hays county schools over Del Valle.

Kyle and Buda are the up & coming urban sprawl in the Austin area. The traffic in the morning from the south is getting fairly congested but it's tolerable. I used to drive daily from east SA to south Austin for work (Ben White Blvd) and it took me about an hour on I35... but the traffic started to get congested as far our as Kyle/Buda. Round Rock is nice as well, and now that there is the toll road, it's fairly quick to get to south Austin (30 mins).

HI! I have lived in a subdivision called Chaparral Crossing for the last 4 years, there are about 130 homes over here and it will be 500 when the building is done. I love it here, there is a wonderful sense of community, the school that my children attend is great ( Hornsby Dunlap Elementary) I think the homes in this area cap out around 105k, then down the street is another subdivision part of the same company building that has homes that are a little more expensive and a little bit nicer. This area is really building up nicely, also I would recomend the Austin's Colony, and Forest Bluff, they are nearby, we are about 20 minutes from downtown and if you hop on the toll road (or go another mile to 973) we are 10 minutes from the airport! Come and check it out ! If you have any questions I would be happy to help to the best of my ability, my name is L. and my number is ###-###-####! Happy Hunting!

My brother and his family live in the Leaner/Cedar Park area, and the schools up there are great. However, the commute for your husband would be a NIGHTMARE. The commute from Buda would be much faster (especially if he doesn't mind paying tolls).

We live in Buda, and have been very happy with the two elementary schools we've experienced (my daughter started Kindergarten at one, then was moved when our new elementary opened). I also have friends whose children transferred from another elementary, and were very happy.

SO, if you're looking in Buda, I'd ask to see homes that are within the boundaries for Carpenter Hill, Elm Grove (the two we've been at) or Buda Elementary. From what I've heard, Dahlstrom (the middle school) is -good-, but not -great-. My neighbor's kids have gone there, and they've been happy with it. We also have land to build a new high school, that the kids from the three elementary schools I mentioned will eventually attend.

Kyle has been growing like gangbusters, and has a pretty good reputation (it's also within Hays CISD), but it would probably add an extra 15-20 minutes to your husband's commute. I don't know much about the schools there, but from everything I've heard about both Buda and Kyle, I'd recommend looking on the west side of I-35.
