Hi! I really need to find some other stay at home mommies so that my daughter as well as myself can make some new friends! Maybe im being inpatient - we just moved here a little over a week ago. But we are both coming from an environment where we interacted with other humanoids on a daily basis :) I was working full time and she was in daycare full time - i need ideas on what to do and where to go and just interaction with others.. plus im still trying to get the house in order and i don't have any females to give me suggestions on what type of curtains to hang! lol.. (my husband is no help, if it were'nt for me, he'd be walking around like a clown!)

What can I do next?

Hi R., I am in New Braunfels just down the highway from you. You should take your daughter the the Jumpy Place. They have a location in Kyle as well as NB and my son who will be three in January LOVES it. It is an indoor jump castle place. Check out the parks in San Marcos as well. They have a great playground there, I am not too familiar with Kyle but I went to college in San Marcos. Austin has a great childrens museum as well.

I use to live in Kyle but now in San Antonio. Lots to do in South Austin. There's a hike and bike trail in the Plum Creek subdivision along with parks. I'm not sure when, but Buda has a Weenie Dog race festival. I believe the first or second weekend of each month theres the farmer's market in Kyle. In San Antonio there's zoo, childrens museum, parks, river walk. Tons of things to do.

I live in Buda and a member of MOMS Club of Buda. There is a chapter in Kyle too! Go to http://www.momsclub.org/ and tell them that you are interested in joining your local chapter. They will connect you with the president of that chapter. Being part of our chapter has been great for me and my kids.

Good luck,
M.

Hi Kyle, TX!!!! I highly suggest you make your way to the Great American Pie Company in Buda. Try going before lunch when their baked goods case is packed solid of fluffy baked goodness.

As for meeting people, can't help there. I'm in Houston. Maybe find a Mops group? Or go to story time at the library? Or join a Bible study or church group? Or meet some neighbors???

R.,

Welcome! Joanne told me that ya'll found the perfect home. I think you'll be really happy with Kyle - it's been growing like gangbusters, and there are lots of young families!

I have NO talent for interior design, so sorry I can't help you with the curtains. But, as far as fun stuff to do with your daughter - I'm your girl!

Last weekend was postponed due to rain, but this Saturday morning at 10:00, a parade kicks off Budafest, 2011. (I'm bummed that we'll miss it, this year.) It's the other big event there, besides the Wiener dog races. http://www.budafest.org/

My kids are both in school, now, but there are mom's groups in the area. Several of my friends were members of MOPS, that meets at Hays Hills Baptist (on FM1626, about a mile past 967). I also LOVE the mother's day out program, there - it's where I met Joanne!

In San Marcos (the next city, south on I-35), there is a place called Aquarena Springs. There are lots of natural springs in the area, and this one has glass-bottom boats you can go in, to see the springs in action.

We also have a few caves/caverns that are open for tours. Wonderworld in San Marcos, Innerspace in Georgetown (about an hour north of Kyle, on I-35), and Natural Bridge in New Braunfels (south of San Marcos - they also have a drive-through wildlife park, that's pretty cool).

In the summertime, you can go to a bridge on S. Congress in downtown Austin, and watch a colony of bats emerge to go feed for the night. (Mexican Freetails - they've flown south, for the winter.)

Olympia Hills Gymnastics (in Buda) has a Parent/Tot playtime on Monday mornings at 10:00. (They also have it on Wednesdays at the S. Austin location - I-35 & Slaughter.) Both my kids loved it, and I met several moms there. http://www.ohgaustin.com/index.php

Somebody mentioned The Jumpy Place. It's also lots of fun. I know the owners, and I think they've done a great job setting it up, so it's fun for the kids, but easy to sit back and keep an eye on them.

I know the Buda Library has pre-school story time, so I'm guessing Kyle probably does, too.

If you aren't totally opposed to hunting, Cabela's was always a fun day out for my kids. . . seeing all the mounts, feeding the fish in the koi pond, and watching the fish in the giant tanks get fed.

Have fun setting up the house, and if you have any questions, just holler!

M.
