Still Not Walking

I have a 10 and a half month old son who is very active. He has been pulling himself up for over a month and cruises along everything. We walk with him a lot, where we just hold his hands and he walks along. Just this past weekend, he is able to walk with us just holding one of his hands. I think a baby just needs lots of experience to get the balance and coordination down. Just remember that each baby does things at different ages!!

When my daughter was 18 months old she still was not walking for me. I tried and tried to get her to walk. My best friend tried and tried to get her to walk. But to no avail. One day, we were discussing the "problem" in front of our friend, Harry. He thought we were crazy, and told us that she had been walking for him for quite some time. I guess she just didn't want us to know. She would do it when we weren't around.

If your daughter is truly not walking, take heart. She will in her own good time. Just ask your doctor if she feels there is a problem. If not, keep encouraging your daughter.

LOL. She sounds exactly like my daughter when she was the same age. The only advice I can give to you is the same my pediatrician told me and that was to try not to be expecting..or "training" her as some children have a fear of falling on their bum and don't want to be embarassed. Hence, let her discover this on her own. She WILL walk into kindergarten, I assure you of that! Plop her up on the edge of the sofa and you can sit on the floor and fold laundry or put together laundered socks and I guarantee you one of the times she will walk straight from the sofa to where you are sitting. She will get there. Both of my boys did not walk without holding furniture until 18 months.

Try not to worry about it. As long as your pedi isn't concerned you shouldn't be. My daughter also didn't walk until after that 15 month visit. But once she did she never stopped :) I know it is easy for me to say looking back but there were so many things I wasted precious time worrying about...just ENJOY her and cherish the moments you have now...she WILL walk. I would just keep practice walking w/her. Its a good sign she is cruising the furniture. It might just be a security issue and she is afraid.

you can get her toys like a play kitchen or workbench.. something she has to stand to use and maybe that willhelp her stand longer and "forget" and start walking from toy to toy

And since it's a toy, kids are intrigued by making it work, and once they figure out they are the ones who make the toy light up (or whatever), then they want to do it, then get more confident they more they play.

My daughter is also 15 months and not yet walking. She picks herself and curises around too but nothing seems to excit her enough to have her take her 1st steps. I've decided to put her in day care. She's great at socializing so i think the daycare may help her. If she see's other kids moving around, she maybe be encouraged to do so herself.

My son is special needs, he is 21mths and not walking, he has a special walker to assist him, in your daughters case, a few things we do in Physical Theropy is try things that interest her to make her forget she is holding on to the furniture, put things a little out of her reach like her fav. toy say like on an ottomen or coffe table and slide it back further and further till she steps out, or in a lot of case's children Love bubbles! You could blow them around her while shes leaning on couch and see if she steps out!
