Still Losing My Hair - Saint Peters,MO

My last baby is almost 8 months old now and I am still losing my hair in amounts daily that are making me have nightmares about being bald! I know after my first pregnancy my hair thinned a little, so I expected it with my second. Now, my hair is considerably longer this time that it was the first time, so perhaps I'm noticing it more, but my husband is commenting on finding it in his clothes (from the laundry?), its in the kicthen, basically all over the house, I lose more strands than I comfortable with when i wash it, still. Has anyone had this problem so long after giving birth? I feel like maybe I should take a vitamin or something... any suggestions?

What can I do next?

This is a little late response. I didn't have this problem after my pregnancies, but I do remember my beautician telling me to continue taking prenatal vitamins for awhile afterwards, and then wean yourself off of them. This will help with hair loss according to her. (usually, you may notice when on prenatal vitamins your hair grew faster and your nails. But she would recommend prenatal vitamins to people who had hair loss problems w/o being pregnant, and supposedly worked)

I have the same problem. Asked my hairdresser about it because it bothered me so much. He said he noticed it a lot, especially with moms who had an epidural. He said the hair that grew out from when I had the epidural was weak at that spot so it would easily break off at that point. He said that my hair wasn't "falling out" but breaking off. He recommended I just get a short haircut if it really bothered me. Otherwise, it would get better once the weak points were all broken off (and then I would need frequent trims anyway to help with split ends).

I am also a victim on this lovely pregnancy side-effect and I stopped around 5 months with my second and it did seem worse than with the first. I would suggest asking you OB to run bloowork just to make sure there isn't anything else going on. Hair loss is a side-effect of thyroid problems. HOwever, my OB said that it's different to everyone and no answer to how long or how much. You may try products to help reduce the amount of loss while you wait it out. You can talk to any beautician and they can help you with that.

Hi J.!
My baby is 6 months and my hair started falling out about 2 months ago. I read that it is very normal. So its been about 2 months since its been falling out, and I have noticed that I have little fuzzy hairs coming in around my hairline, so that means its starting to grow back. Your not going to go bald, it will come back I promise. So Im still losing hair a lot, but I can tell its coming back too. Also I dont know if you do, but if you wear your hair up a lot (I do), when you take your hair down and get in the shower, you lose tons of hair. I also read that throughout the day your hair naturally falls out a little bit, but if you have it up, it doesnt have a chance to fall off of you, so when you do take it down it seems like a lot. I hope this makes sense, and dont worry, you wont go bald, this is the second time this has happened to me. =)
