We just had Zerorez out to clean our carpets last week. They did an awesome job! We have four small children and a house that really is too small for our family size, so you can imagine after 2 1/2 years with no cleanings, it looked pretty bad. It now looks brand new with the exception of one very small spot in the boys room that we have never been able to figure out what it was. Even the kids' hallway that was TERRIBLE looking looks great! Also, Zerorez is all green, totally safe for children, and leaves no soapy residue or overwhelming odors. I would absolutely recommend them. I would also recommend Sheddrick. He was friendly and very knowledgeable. He will tell you your options if you have specific problems/stains but is not at all pushy with trying to up-sell. Hope this helps, and good luck!

There have been connections to Kawasaki disease. You can google and look up at http://www.checnet.org/healthehouse/education/articles-de...

We just got our carpets professionally cleaned after 9 years and once I knew my kids were old enough not to be rolling around on the floor. I did clean them with my own unit that I bought from Sears but I didn't use harsh chemicals.

That is a very good question to ask. Most carpet cleaners use solutions with a high pH which can be dangerous to people and pets and children. Chem-Dry's Natural cleaning solution is safe and non toxic. It has a pH of 7 which is neutral. Our solution is safe enough to drink -- I have seen people do it but have not myself as I can usually find something I like a little better! Chem-Dry's cleaning solution - the Natural is copied from Mother Nature and there are no soaps or surfactants that are left behind which could be dangerous to people and pets and that is what also causes carpets to resoil more quickly. Being a mother myself (and running this business from before I had children) I understand your concerns and wanted to let you know that Chem-Dry's cleaning solution is completely safe. I would love to help you get your home ready for your new baby - please feel free to email me at ____@____.com or call me at ###-###-####.

I don't know about the chemicals in carpet cleaning; however, I would use caution if you are concerned.

However, I wanted to let you know that I received a gift from one of my aunts with my first child - a quilt. she told us it was to use for the baby so that we didn't have to lay her on the carpet. It was quilt that we kept out on our couch; and it could be washed. We would throw it on the floor whenever we were going to lay our baby on the floor. Anyway, we use it with our second baby now as well. I thought it was a neat, simple idea that I never thought of as a new mom. Good luck!!

I wanted to repeat that some people have linked carpet cleaning to Kawasaki syndrome in small children. I have no idea if it is true, but if it were my house and baby, I would hold off on any carpet cleaning for a while. Besides, babies have an unfortunate tendency to throw up/wet/drool all over the floor anyway. We're waiting for our daughter to be about 10 or so before we clean or replace our carpet! ;) (She's 4 now.)

We always used blankets on the floor as the other lady suggested. It worked great for us.

Chem Dry is one of the only companies we found that actually uses Club soda effectively and safely to remove stains and odors. However, be careful about purchasing their (or any other company's) "sealant" it is not safe and will put chemicals back on your carpet. I asked them about this and there isn't a green way to seal out stains when you use a carpet cleaning company. There are new "green" carpets and carpet pads out there though. Blessings, J.
