Stain Removal - Mesquite,TX

Usually I am the source to go to for getting stains out. However I am at a loss, my daughter decided to dye her hair by herself one evening. In doing so she managed to make some pretty gross patterns on my new beige carpet. I have no idea what will remove it and it is making me crazy every time I see the stains. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi T.,
Have you tried Folex. I never used it for dye stains, but it worked wonders with carpet stains left from my creative 3 year old - crayons, markers, carrot juice, poop:(, etc. Good luck!

Well I Googled and found these websites. The first one is a product you need to buy but it's only $5.25 per tube.
http://www.baneclene.com/prof-spot-hair-dye.html

This one is if the stain was right when it happened and it does not sound like it but it's worth a try.

Good Housekeeping suggests this:

I've also read that you could try to cut out that piece and replace with another piece. I would think if there was padding underneath, you would have to glue padding to floor and glue carpet to the padding. Perhaps you should contact a flooring store as well.

Good luck on this tough stain.

I use solu-mel by Melaleuca for tough stains. But even that might not come out.
I would use scissors to cut off the top and it will probably blend in. I have used this on gum I absolutely could not get out. It usually blends right in and you can't even tell. If you can't cut down enough to get the stain out without people noticing. Then you may want to consider cutting that piece out and replacing with a new piece. You may have some left over from when it was put down. Or dye the rest to match the stain. If not....
I would think that you are sunk.
Good luck though,

my hairdresser just told me that baking soda will pull color out..............of my hair at least.
You could make a paste out of baking soda and water and put it on for a while and see if it lifts some of it out
Good Luck

I have NO IDEA if this will work, but you might want to consider the "stripper" that you put in your hair to get the color out if you made a mistake. Then again, it might strip the original color out of your carpet.

I would call a professional carpet cleaner. Make sure they have a guarantee!!

Nothing will take it out. I am a hairdresser and dark dye if permanent dye is never going to come out. Years ago I walked into the bathroom at a mall and saw what horrified me. Three girls bought dye and were dying their hair in the restroom. As I went into my stall, I heard one say how long do we leave this on. Appearently their parents would not have approved and they had no shampoo or towels or anything. Dirty bathroom too. I was so horrified. The ends of long hair are porous and they will grab. That is why we are trained to do a professional job. It also looked black in color which does not lend to enhance high. So be glad at least she was comfortable at home to do it. May have needed some help though.

When I was younger I dyed my hair while I was wearing one of my sisters shirt. Of course, I got the hair dye on her shirt. I used something by Woolite and it got out most of the dye from her shirt. I'm don't remember exactly what it was called, I just know it is made by Woolite. I don't know if it will work as good on Carpet. I also have used a product by Clorox for removing stains from clothes. I think it is called Clorox Stain Out, something like that. I was amazed at how quickly it took stains out of my carpet. I did not spray it on the stain though. I took the lid off and poured it on to the stain.

Good Luck!!!!

Dye is dye. Unfortunately nothing can remove dye stains because they are permanent. You can have the area patched if you have extra carpet to put there. My company does this and we would be happy to come take a look at it. Call Rachel at Cornerstone Chem-Dry ###-###-#### or email her at ____@____.com

I haven't tried to take out hair dye before, but peroxide usually takes out blood and wine stains. You might give that a try.

Depending on how high the pile is on your carpet and how deep the stain went you could trim with scissors the tips of the yarn of the carpet. They showed that on Rachel Ray the other day to get spaghetti sauce off the carpet.

I have 2 suggestions. Folex, you can get it at Wal-Mart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond. It's non-toxic, no stinky smells. Also, I believe the product is called RID (not exactly sure). It comes in small yellow bottles. They have different formulas for different stains. I was able to get red wine out of a white dress. I know Wal-Mart has a good selection. Hope it works!

Maybe try the Oxyclean spray or powder (add water to make a paste) and put it on the spot. There is also a hair color remover by Roux-you can probably get it at a beauty supply store. I would also google "removal of hair dye", I usually get my anwers to issues through googling it.

Have you tried vinegar and baking soda? What is it club soda that I have heard helps remove stains too. Have you called or gone by a carpet place... maybe they have a cleaning recommendation.

I suggest finding another dye to match your carpet color and use it to try and dye it back or close to.
Another option, but I would only use if all else fail's;
cut out a even shape of the area's with the stain's and replace with matching patches cut from extra carpet left over's or if you don't have any extra you can cut them out of spot's that aren't in common area's.
(ie.:back corner's of carpet lined closet's/etc.)
It's basically swapping them out and you can use your choice of adhesives sold at hobby, craft, and home repair store's.
I would have to do this for rental properties and it was one of those practice makes perfect so be prepaired to spend some time on getting it to blend to your acceptance!
I recommend going with more circular shape's because they blended the easiest and best looking in my oppinion!
Good luck!

Try "goof off", you can get it at home depot or Lowes. The man who installed my carpet said it works on everything. I think hair dye would be a good test. Let me know if it works.
