Hi! what are the "must see" spots that will capture the interest of my 6th and 8th grader in Springfield, IL. We will probably only be there one day. Thanks!

Yes, definitely the Lincoln Presidential Museum. There are several Lincoln sites. You can visit his home, his tomb, the Old State Capitol, Lincoln's Law office. New Salem is just north of Springfield. It is where Lincoln lived before moving to Springfield.

There is a tourist office on the south side of the Old State Capitol (at least there was a few years ago) where you can get a map of the downtown area. There are a lot of unique restaurants within walking distance of both the Lincoln Museum and the Old State Capitol.

The Illinois State Museum is pretty good. There's some natural history exhibits and some about the history of Illinois.

If you were looking for something other than Lincoln, check out the calendar in the Illinois Times:

They do a nice job of listing events each week. You might find something your kids will really like there.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any more questions about Springfield. Hope they have a great time.

If you're in Springfield for one day, you have to go to the Lincoln Home and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. If you have time, the tomb and the Old State Capitol are nice as well.

Go to the Lincoln Home first because the tickets for the tour of the are timed. You may find depending on how busy they are that you can't get in for an hour (which is enough time to look through their museum and tour the neighborhood) or you might not get in for several hours in which you can go straight to the Presidential Library and Museum.

Dining: Close to the downtown area there is a restaurant called The Feed Store which has great soup and sandwiches. There are also several other sandwich shops and Bennigans is in one of the hotels. If you are in downtown Springfield for supper, go to Saputo's which has amazing Italian food.

I think that is where the Lincoln Presidential Library is. It is a great place for kids with 2 great "movies" with sound & other cool affects. It is interactive and educational :)
