My family is planning a 17 day roadtrip for next summer - 13 days on 66 - we have a 2 day drive to Chicago to start, then a 2 day drive home from Santa Monica... We already know some places we'll be stopping along the way, as well as major stops - 1 full day at Grand Canyon and 2 full days at Disneyland. So, any tips are welcomed and appreciated! Oh - there's five of us - myself, my husband, sons ages 11 and 8, daughter age 5. Trip will be in early June.

What can I do next?

Are you a fan of Abraham Lincoln? Springfield, IL has just about everything Abraham Lincoln. His adult home (where he lived in the years prior to the While House), his law office, the Old State Capitol, his tomb, The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. Also, New Salem State Park is just north of Springfield in Petersburg. This is where he lived before moving to Springfield. We also have Knight's Action Park - water park, miniature golf, go-carts, battle cages, driving range. Something to consider!

I would spend some time in Oklahoma City
Go see the Oklahoma City memorial to the bombing.
Also Frontier City is a nice park (not as big as some of the six flags parks, but still roller-coasters etc).
The cowboy hall of fame.

There is also a nice riverwalk set up thing in Bricktown (downtown OKC) - sort of like San Antonio. You can do a little boat trip - it's nice.

Also - there is a GREAT children's museum a bit out of OKC. My daughter's dad has taken her there and she LOVED it more than the children's museum in Chicago!!!! It's the Jasmine Moran's museum in Seminole.

ETA - also stop in St Louis and go up in the arch. Grant's Farm is amazing. There is also the St Louis City Museum that has been rated as one of the best in the country. http://citymuseum.org/site/?p=89

Well I can't give you specifics, but Flagstaff is a really nice little town. Cute downtown with fun shops and several surprisingly nice restaurants and bars. Lots of affordable hotels, too as it's just an hour from the Grand Canyon. My son goes to college there, at NAU, which is a nice place to walk around and the Arizona Cardinals work out there over the summer so you may even catch a scrimmage, if pro football is something you're into!

Tucumcari, NM - on Route 66. We're staying at the Blue Swallow Motel in a couple of weeks. Supposedly this little town held a lot of inspiration for the movie Cars.
