Nia, have you tried contacting your elementary school? My kids got thier speech therapy from the public school system. You basically call your home elementary school, ask for the speech therapist. Let her know what your concerns were and what your ped dr just recommended. You'll need to fill out some forms, and then you will get a call from the speech pathogist who will make an appointment for you to go in and have your child evaluated. After the evaluation, if they deem that your child's speech is behind what is their criteria for "age appropiate" speech then you will get accepted or declined. My son got accepted but my daughter did not. They did not think that she required therapy and that her speech will develop with age. So once accepted you will then take your child into the speech therapist at your elementary school once a week. When your child starts school on a regular basis, then the speech therapist will work with your child's teacher to pull her out of class for her therapy.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I have friends who are quite vaine and have taken their child to a private specialist and thier development is the same as my son's. In fact one of them have regressed. So I would highly recommend the public school system. It has worked great for our family
