I'm in need of a Speech Therapist that will take Aetna Insurance. I have a 3 year DD who is in need of some speech help. I went through ECI but she turned 3 they cut her off and I have not heard from them since, I have been calling but no return calls and to top it off they only visit once a month and what should have been a year of visits was only 3 months which did not help. If anyone have any advice or know where I can take my daughter please help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. The reason I could not use ISD was because of the hours, I work full time ISD and I have the same hours so they could not help me. I did get in contact wit ECI and they give me a few numbers that can help with going out to where she is. Thanks for everyone’s reply on my question.

If you are in Plano, there is a speech therapist at 15th and 544 (Hwy 5) on the North East corner. My son goes for speech and loves his therapist there. They have been wonderful. Look up Ann Bramlett. I'm sorry, I don't have the number.

Have you tried your local independent school district? I am not sure if it is statewide, but in Lewisville, when ECI ends at age 3, the public school system will evaluate your child (it should be free), and if the child meets the qualifications, they will be accepted into the program through the school district.. that is free too.
If that doesn't work.. does Aetna have a website with a listing of speech therapists that accept the insurance plan? Or, could you call the 800 number and ask for a listing of who the doctors/ therapists are?

I don't know if they take Aetna, but my son is going through therapy at Therapy 2000. My doctor did not recomend ECI, she said that there had been a lot of comlaints about ECI not seeing clients as much as they are suppose to. My son's therapist sees him 2-3 times a week.

Look them up on the internet. I know they see kids older than 3.

I also used ECI for my two year old but when he turned three they recommended that I send him to our public school speech program. Even though he is too young to go to ELementary School they still accept students for speech therapy that live in the district. Maybe you should check that out.

Also, my son is now 31/2 and his speech has improved in the past month dramatically. Hang in there.

My daughter is in speech classes at the elementery school. Its free. You would call the nearest school to you can tell them you want to get your daughter into speech and they will tell you what you will need to do. My daughter who is 5 will start school this yr, the speech therapist will pull her out of class for an 1hr and continue the speech help. You should check it out.
Hope this helps out

Try checking into your school district speech therapist. Most school districts have speech therapist, so I would start there and they could direct you better. Hope this helps.

In the state of Texas when a child turns three ECI stops and the School District takes over. You will have to call your School district and have your child evaluated. It is a free service, including Bus service if needed. My son went through the program with Plano Independent School District. Your contact with ECI should have set up the appointment for you before your child turned three so you would not have had a break in services.
Good luck.

Check with your ped. We go to Our Children's House at Baylor and I know that they take insurance. You do need a Dr's referal to go there. We have been so happy with our son's Therapist and the progress he's made there. I also beleive that after 3, the school district can help but I don't know how that works. I'm sure ECI would be able to tell you though.

Good luck!

What ECI neglected to tell you is that she is eligible for evaluation and help through your school district now at age 3. Call the elementary that she will be attending and ask how to get a speech evaluation. It can be a slow process but be persistent and it should be possible to get many sessions in before the end of the school year. Unfortunately, over the summer you would either have to wait until the fall to continue or hire a private therapist.

It is FREE through the school. My now 5 y/o did speech for a year and a half. It helped him a lot.

UTD Callier Center has a GREAT program for 3 year olds. It's called SMile. It's offered at both the Dallas and Richardson campus. I was able to work out a plan to take my son while I worked as you need not be present during the therapy time. More information is on their website. UTD Callier also offers private lessons - not sure if they take Aetna. It might be something you have to file directly - let me know if you have any questions. Good Luck!

The other responses are right on. Call your local school and tell them you want a PPCD speech evaluation. That stands for Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities. You want to see if she qualifies with a speech disability. Even if she doesn't qualify for school services, you will have a free evaluation report (paid for by your tax dollars) to share with your pediatrician or any private therapist you decide to go with. School districts differ a bit in the services they offer to preschoolers. Do you mind me asking which school district you are in?
