My son just turned 1 and my arm and wrist and hurting badly - he's not yet walking (just cruising) so I'm assuming it's just the weight of picking him up all the time. I went to my doctor and he said it's just tendonitis. Any suggestions for treatment/any one had this problem?

I got tennis elbow when my dd was a baby, from all the carrying of carseat. I put on an elbow brace which helped. Perhaps a wrist brace would help you? Or maybe even a shot of cortizone, if your doc is into that sort of thing. My hubby's doc will if they ask, which usually helps his tendonitis.

My chiropractor has a really cool treatment for tendonitis. Some sort of laser and also a massaging tool. It really helps. I have tendonitis and I feel for you. I also use an EMS unit. Any MD or Chrio can order you and EMS unit to use at home. After a few days my flare-ups usually settle down. I know a lot of good Chiro's if you need a referral.

I also had DeQuervain's syndrome after I had my son. That is a different issue. I had a DeQuervain release, a very simple surgery cleared it right up. You need to see an Orthopedic surgeon that specializes in wrists and elbows. They will be able to decide whether your pain is from elbow or wrist. Dr. John Westkemper in Irving at Irving Orthopedics did mine, he is great!

I was just diagnosed with this too - it's called DeQuervain's. Get a thumb immobilizing splint that holds the thumb in place and goes around your wrist. My doctor advised me to use it at night only and take advil during the day for 3 weeks. If the pain doesn't go away, he'll do a cortizone shot. Worse case scenario is surgery. My mother and mother in law both had it terribly and had to have surgery. It's a simple procedure with a quick healing time but if you catch it soon enough you can usually fix it with the splint. Just to make sure this is what you have - make a fist with the hand that hurts with your thumb tucked inside. Bend your wrist toward your pinky finger..if it hurts - that's what it is. Good luck!

yes i had it with my first daughter. There actually is a name for it. It's called Mother's wrist and it is caused from holding that little boy of yours all the time. The best thing to do it get and wrist brace. it will give you support and help keep your wrist straight so it can heal. I had to wear mine for a month or so and then it was better. Plus I think once they start walking good it gives you a break from having to hold them all the time and that will help too.

A splint is a great idea while it is healing. A fast way to help go after that inflammation is by getting the right vitamins and minerals in you. Within a month after I started drinking the two ounces of liquid nutrition, my Plantar Fasciatis quit hurting. My husband avoided a knee replacement with this, and many friends with carpal tunnel have reported no issues with that anymore. Body is able to heal itself with right vitamins and minerals. We have been on this 2 1/2 years now, and my list of health improvements grows. Last week, I found out with a bone density test that bone increase had occured. Great news to me, because I have osteoporosis. Look at the website and call me on the number listed if you have questions. http://annnoble.vemma.com Reason it helps, is it goes after inflammation in your body. We don't want inflammation in there because it leads to so many health problems. I just know it works really great.

I've got the same issue. For the medical options (cortisone shot, etc.), my dr. said that I shouldn't consider those until I was done having kids--I'm currently pregnant with #2. Instead, I've got the thumb-immobilizing wrist splint, which helps, and I also ice it with a bag of peas at the end of the day. I also try to be conscious of how I pick up DD--if you just watch the angle of your hand/wrist/ arm, you'll find you can relieve a lot of the pressure and improve things just through a slight adjustment. I found that I was picking up DD under her arms by focusing the weight in the crook between my thumb and forefinger, which was causing tendonitis in my wrist and thumb. I slight adjustment--keeping my wrist straight, weight more in the palm of my hand rather than thumb--made a big difference. GL!

I had severe foot tendonitis a few weeks ago and could not walk. The only things that helped me was steriods and Celebrex. It's 85% better now and I'm seeing my doc on Mon to follow up.
