Hey everyone! My son just turned 3yrs and loves his pacifer! we try to pull it whenever we can. we got it down just from him to use as he falls asleep for bedtime and naps, and maybe some car rides. we pull it out of his mouth when he is playing. we haven't bought any and we are down to our last two in the house and i am wondering if anyone has ideas how to deal with him when he is mad because he doesnt have it? or should we let him keep using it while he sleeps? if he doesnt have it he ends up looking for it or asking for it.bascially i am asking if any one has any ideas how to wean him off it?

What can I do next?

You just have to take it away completely. He is going to be a terror for a few days, but eventually he won't miss it. He might have to cry himself to sleep. It usually takes 4 nights and it is rough. I did it for my daughter with the bottle at 1 year so I am sure it will be much more difficult to do it at 3 years. I took the pacifier away from her when she was 5 months old because she was using it less and I saw the opportunity. I know I can't really compare, since my daughter was younger. Good Luck!

Hi E., my daughter wiened herself off of the binkys at about 6/7 months, but now sucks her thumb which is probably worse. I have heard that baby's now black and white when it comes to binkys and bottles. Like I said, I didn't have to do this because she transitioned from breast to bottle and binky to thumb quite well.

I will have to start working on the thimb soon.
Good Luck

You have to just take it away. Every picture of my son until he was 3, he has a binky in his mouth. He loved that stupid thing!! One day my friend came over and cut the tips off all the binkys in the house. When he would suck on it, he would show me it was "broke" and then I would tell him to throw it away. We had to find all the binkys in the house (we had like 20 of them) and he actually was ok with it. I was more afraid of it then he was. Bedtime wasn't bad either. I kept him up late the first night without it so I knew he was tired, and he went to sleep just fine. Good luck!

My friend got her daughter off of the bottle by telling her that swiper (from Dora) had taken them all. Her daugther was like oh ok.. and that was that. so maybe if your son knows who dora and swiper are try that. Also my other friend is doing the cutting the tip off. They are cutting the tip off of the binkies little by little until its gone. one other thing I heard was that a mom took all the binkies and put them im a bag hung them on a tree and told her chld that the binkie fairy needed them for all the new babies in the world. Then that night her and her child went to the tree tied the bag to the tree and in the morning it was gone taken by the fairy and there was a present left for the child.... hope these help...
