Son Has Been Extra Sleepy

My son, 2 yrs seems to be extra tired lately. He only takes one nap a day for months now, and takes it usually around 1pm but for a few days now he wants to take it 2-3 hours after waking up in the morning. He wakes up about 7:30 am or 8am.

I think he might be teething and getting the rest of his molars, could this be causing him to be more tired and cranky lately? He has a slightly runny nose, and an occasional fever here and there but it's never high. He has a doctor appointment coming up next week-ish and I dont think he has an ear infection or anything like that.
And his schedule is always consistent and it doesnt ever change.

Any other reason that could be causing him to be so tired?

What can I do next?

Could be growing, could be teething.
Could be he "needs" and extra nap here and there sprinkled in with his O.-a-day nap. My son did that. Like 3 days of O. nap then he was sleepier and added O. sometimes.
The only times he took an unexpected late, looooooong nap--look out, he'd usually wake up with a raging fever.
So, I hope it's just growing or teething for you.
Good luck!

My son gets like that when he is either sick and/or having a growth spurt.
I let him sleep. Per his cues.

Sometimes kids are sick AND also having a growth spurt or teething at the same time.
So all combined, this can make a kid need more sleep. Or they have lack of sleep.

My son is always consistent too, per naps and sleep. But when growth spurts or illness occurs, he needs more sleep. And I let him.

During growth spurts, my son has been known to sleep for 14 hours straight. I don't wake him, nor for meals. Unless he wakes himself.
I let him sleep.

My son was like that around that age. He was going through growth spurts. He would sleep more, and also eat more during those times. This will happen sporadically, and don't be alarmed by it. He's a very tall kid now , age 8. He goes through the leg pain now, and the tired days. He eats like a horse!

Since you are seeing his doctor soon, I would let him know your concerns, however, I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Growth spurt or could be allergies. My 2nd daughter had allergies and was always tired when they were acting up.

It sounds to me like he's growing. Don't be too surprised to find him acting like he's starving in about a week or so. Just go with it...growing happens in cycles.

My son always seemed to sleep longer and deeper when he was having a growth spurt.
His pre-school teachers were surprised at how deeply he slept for naps, but they said he almost seemed to be taller after nap time - like you could literally watch him grow.

I think it's a growth spurt or teething. Or a combo of both. Mine always got sleepy an cranck at those time. And the teething cause cause low grade fevers.

Good luck and God Bless!

The slight fever coming and going probably means teething but he could also be growing. My son sleeps extra late in the mornings and takes longer naps when he's growing. And he gets pretty cranky too and sometimes asks for medicine, saying something hurts.
