S.N.
I would take him to the doctor. Strep doesn't always get a fever. My son never got a fever and my daughter would have a high fever and pass out.
So, my son (5 years old) ate breakfast fine, but didn't want to eat lunch. He doesn't seem to have a fever. He has now said that his neck hurts...he can move it just fine though so I am not concerned with menigitis. I am wondering if I should take him in for a strep test. He complained about neck pain a few weeks ago and I took him in only to find out that he had strep. I am wondering if he has it again. The after hours office opens in 2.5 hours... I don't know of any other way to tell about strep other than to have his throat swabbed at the doctor's office...
I went ahead and took him in and it was NOT strep. He has a slight sinus infection. So he just feels kinda crappy and we are giving OTC tylenol and motrin. The doctor says that he is fine to go to school. Too bad I do not have a crystal ball to tell me whether we really need to go to the doctor or not!

I'd take him.
It's not uncommon for strep to need 2 or 3 courses of antibiotics.
Hi T.,
How is your son's mood?
Is he energetic?
Is his neck still bothering him now?
Go by your intuition...if you are concerned, go to the dr, but make it relaxing and fun since it is a Sunday :)
Go for an ice cream after or pizza.
Hope this helps jilly
Go to the doctors office visit. It will make you feel better and get the worry out. Don't worry bout being paranoid etc. Your son is only 5 it would scar or cause an issue to take him to the doctors office for a strep or cbc.
Take him. It could be strep, but neck could be menengitis. Better safe than sorry. If he's not acting normally, and if it could be strep again, it needs to be treated. Go with your gut.
I would take him too.
If you can get a look in his throat with a flashlight, check for white marks in a red throat. The first time my doctor showed me what strep looked like I couldn't believe it. It has helped me a lot since to decide what to do in these uncertain moments. Also one time I thought I saw strep it was actually coxsackie (foot, hand and mouth - a virus)
T. - glad little one was ok!
For the most part, one clue as to it maybe being strep if pretty bad breath (even if teeth brushed) - once you get the smell, you won't forget it! Dgd had strep a couple years ago - she got sent home due to very slight fever, but no other symptoms of anything. Since she still had same slight fever the next morning, she stayed home - loved having cartoon day w/my son! I called checking up a couple times during the day - and immediately checked her when I got home - she spoke and UGH! the breath!! We went to an immediate care place that evening! That same clue (breath) had me taking her to the doc w/o any other real symptoms - they swabbed and yep! Got that one done quickly and no missed school (got lucky, election day here is a off day for school anyway).
I would take him strep can be miserable :(
If you suspect strep he will need the rapid test. Morton for the pain until you can get him in. I hope he feels better.
Go by your gut. If you feel you should, go for it. I hope he feels better really soon. There is something going around. Everyone seems to be getting sick. Good luck!
Better to be safe than sorry. I would take him.
