So, Do I See a Doc or Sleep on It?

I have felt sickish all day. My abdomen is tender to the touch (really tender) just under my sternum. Well of course this is indicative of maybe my gallbladder. It's not super painful, just uncomfortable. I'd hate to spend the money (no insurance and bills due) on the doctor if this is nothing. I have no fever. I just ate to try to 'anger' my gallbladder (thinking that if I doubled over in pain, of course I'd go to the doc immediately)... yeah, it's still just really tender.

You ladies know I'm a horrible patient ;)

SO... I'd really like to sleep on it, but wanted everyone else's thoughts... what do you think? What would you do if it were you?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Soooooooo not pregnant, lol!!

ETA: I slept on it and felt FINE today, tired, but fine. I'll mention it to my doc next time I go in for my BP check up :)

Tender to the touch? could be gall bladder or it could be appendix.

I know it's not cheap. I would go. Not to the ER - don't they have the Patient First clinics there in Richmond? YES!! They do!!!

If you need me to come down and take you. I will.

Gads that sounds like what I was trying to trouble shoot a couple weeks ago that the office ladies told me was a hernia. Not sure what it was though, it went away two weeks later before it ever drove me to the doctor. :p

Sleep on it.

~I have had gallbladder issues and I went a good long while without going to the Dr. I think you will be fine to wait and see if it passes or persists!

Well, I've been up since 3:30 am with a very similar-sounding problem, and nope, I haven't gone to the doctor yet either.

I'm not saying you shouldn't go. Just wanted you to know you're not alone! I have been miserable today but am finally feeling a touch better (trying to not eat much).

Good luck R..

I had to have my gallbladder out during my 5th pregnancy. During an attack, it felt like I was dying -- and wanted to die! I had to have my last baby out 4 weeks early because of it! It did not matter if I ate anything that would make my gallbladder "attack." I just wanted to "die." So, unless you feel that bad, I would wait! Esp. if you have insurance issues. Good luck!

Personally, I would sleep on it for sure. Could just be a bug of some sort
coming on. Does not sound like anything that needs emergent care. Feel
better.

Do you have access to an ask-a-nurse line? They may be able to tell you more about whether or not you need to go in. Good luck!

Is it on the right or left side, do you feel nauseaus? Does it only hurt when you touch it or all the time. Could it be a bruise under the skin?

If you don't feel better or the pain gets worse, you should see the doctor. Gallbladders can rupture.

I lived with a bad gallbladder for over a year because I didn't have insurance... didn't know it was my gallbladder either. After about 4 months of issues, doc gave me an anit-acid which helped a little... then a month later I found out I was expecting. I lost nearly 20# cause I couldn't eat... figured boys didn't agree with me (it was my first boy), after about 1/2 way though the pregancy everything was ok. Then when he was about 5 mo old spices started to bother me... I couldn't even eat pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving :( cause I would double over in pain (lay in bed in the fetal position crying for hours/days - would be freezing yet sweating like no tomorrow) and as the months passed more things I ate bothered me... I slowly cut out one food at a time, till Febuary when even water caused the pain. I skilled work & went in to see the doc... he sent me to the ER and was concerned about me driving - he wanted me to go via ambulance, but I drove. The doc's office called the ER to inform them I was on my way in & wanted a call when I got there - they actually called 4 times before I was seen.

I had gallstones & a bad gallblader - they had to remove the stones before they could remove the bladder... when they did remove the bladder it broke with caused other issues due.

Please - don't let yours go as I did!!! I know it can be costly w/ no insurance, but most places will work out a payment plan or if you are lower income cut the bill down a little. Take care of yourself!!

Sleep on it.
You ate to 'anger' your gallbladder? (Before or after the pain started?)
Going to a doctor will result in a vaudeville skit (and a bill you don't need).
"Doctor, Doctor! It's hurts when I do this!"
"Then don't do that" da dum bum (drum roll)

If I were doing a cleanse I'd drink water with a little Epsom salts (a teaspoon) in it (quickly because it tastes fairly awful) and that is suppose to relax the gallbladder and soften up gallstones.
So maybe that might help.
But make it a very small amount of Epsom salts otherwise you'll have diarrhea.

If you really suspect you have gallbladder trouble, then eat/drink as if you do (so as not to irritate it) and see if it gets better.
Google 'gallbladder attack diet' and you'll come up with much advice.

Hi, R.:

It sounds more like gastritis .
Pepto Bismul may be helpful.
Good luck.
