I don't like SnapChat. I don't think any child should have it.

I have a 16 year old son and even HE deleted his account for a while. I don't like KIK either.

Sometimes technology is a good thing? Sometimes it's not. "social media" like SnapChat, Kik, Instagram, etc. aren't good for children to have.

Here's a really informative article to help you make the best decision based on your child's maturity. It's not as innocent as it appears, or as innocent as some children claim it is.

I'm right there with Mom2KCK. My son is 12, and he's the only one of his classmates that doesn't have Snapchat. He has Facebook and Instagram. He doesn't really use Facebook. We have an "open phone" policy, where I can poke through his phone at any time. He's a very responsible, mature boy compared to a lot of other boys his age. I just don't like the idea of not being able to monitor what's going on. I explained to him why he isn't allowed to have Snapchat, complete with details about girls sending naked pictures. It made him blush and he hasn't asked again since. At some point, I may allow it, but it won't be any time soon!

My 12 year old (almost 13) is literally the only one her age I know that does NOT have one. I don't trust it - and that's too bad for her. She is incredibly responsible with her other social media accounts and mature beyond her years, but it's not her I worry about. No thanks!

Our kids love it. They play with photos and the additional faces all day long. They aren't chatting with strangers and doing anything wrong. They're just having a good time with it. So I don't think there is any age limit to it.

I would say if they want to chat using it then you should always know exactly who your kids are in contact with. I have every account password and I go on their accounts all the time. Her FB account is on my phone so it's very easy to log out, log in on her, and scroll through stuff, then log back out. She never even knows when I've been on.

As for other programs, there are some that are known to have more audience...like twitter, anyone can follow you. Same with FB unless you turn that option off. I do that on my own and the kids. Friends can follow me or un-follow my posts but strangers cannot follow me.

It's my job to censor their social media. I do it very stringently.

What is the point of sharing temporary photos? If it's a good photo why it needs to be deleted soon? Is there something to hide?
IMO minimum age is 30 too, still I don't see the point even after 30.
I think it's dangerous too because if you share something online, even temporarily, it could stay on the web uncontrollably forever.

My daughter is 21, living on her own and she has snapchat.

If she were younger and living at home, I would seriously consider her NOT having it. I am ok with Instagram, I HATE KiK .

How old is the child in question?

There are too many things you can do with snapchat that can compromise you if you are not careful. (think looking for a job a few years from now). My daughter is well aware of that and a responsible kid. You should see some of the things she has shared with me that is posted on Snapchat. THAT is why I say no child should have it.
