So my Grandparents just moved out of their house this weekend and got rid of all their belongings. Well I took some dishes that she had had and they all smelt like her house so i washed them in the dishwasher, twice. Well they still stink and now our dishwasher and other dishes stink as well. How can I get that out of the dishes and now the dishwasher? Is there anything i can put in the dishwasher that wouold be safe? My husband said to put bleach in there? Do i just hand wash all of them? Thank you for all of you advise. I'm willing to try anything at this point.

What can I do next?

I wash out my dishwasher once a month. Put in a cup of vinegar in the top rack with no other dishes and run it. Stop the dishwasher before it gets to the heating cycle. I would do it with the dishwasher first, then the dishes. I would run the dishes again in the regular cycle with soap after that, but the smell should be gone.

I would definitely try vinegar before bleach.

Ditto on the vinegar.
My SIL also told be that Dawn (?) lemon-lime soap got the stink out of her mildewy clothes.

Hi M.
You can buy a dishwaher cleaner at wal-mart that you put in the empty dishwasher and it cleans it and get rid of any smells that may be there. Good Luck T.
