My home is just 1 year old. One bathtub has not been used until recently, I've noticed an odor coming from the tub area and am not sure how to get rid of it. I've heard that gas can back up into your home if a water has not been run down the drain for a long time.. I've tried running the water for a long time and pouring bleach down the drain and so far no change. Do any of you have any ideas of how I can get rid of this smell or what could be causing this? Thank you.

OMG, I used to live in McKinney, Texas...used to work at TI...
I recommend pouring baking soda, followed by white vinegar down ALL your drains every month. Hope this makes everything smell nicer....
You've got to run water in all drains several times per week or they will smell. Just keep doing that. Bleach is good too.
Hve you tried hydrogen peroxide?? That generally 'eats' anything growing in there. Pour a little, let it sizzle.... pour more. If you don't hear sizzling, then I don't know what else to try -- vinegar? baking soda? Drano?
I noticed a smell from the clean tub also.
I was from the sewer line, so a strong cleaning of the toliet and a bleach leave-in keep that smell down. I suspect the vent that goes to the roof gets blocked sometimes to cause the smell to come up.
Sometimes means your drain is fixin to mess up on you. Try putting the water hose with full power and run it down the sink, toilet, and bathtub. If that don't work put a plumbers snake and run it down you drain plugs outside your house
I would want to know what is the source? If your home is new it should be under warranty. Can you call someone to come out and make sure all systems are working properly? Try some sort of enzyme and bacteria killing liquid - like drano or something 1st to avoid embarassment of contractor looking at you like a dumb blonde if it's nothing. If that doesn't get it, there may be an issue.
