Slippers for a 10-Month-old?

Does anyone have a good recommendation for slippers for my 10-month-old? All of the magazines and books say not to put shoes on a child until they're established walkers (and even then, not until they need to go outside). My daughter is just starting to pull up to her knees, so I'm thinking it'll be a month or two until she's walking. But I'm afraid it's too cold in the house for just socks, and socks don't tend to stay on. I also don't want to spend $50 on something she's going to outgrow in 2 months.

I don't know if slippers would be a good alternative, or some other soft-bottomed shoe. If anyone has experience with a product that keeps feet warm, is as flexible as a sock, but stays put, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

To save a few $$, I bought a pair of "bugaloo" shoes, which are basically Robeez knock-offs. The problem was the elastic was so loose that in less than an hour, my daughter figured out how to take both shoes off by rubbing her feet together. So after about 2 weeks of constantly putting her shoes back on, we went to a Stride Rite outlet and bought a pair of real Robeez.

OMG, these shoes are awesome! They fit perfectly, stay on, and look super cute. I should have listened to you all from the beginning! Thanks for your help!

The robeez slippers/shoes are great! I buy them at the stride rite outlet in Pleasant Praire WI for $20. The Target brand is good also for $12. For my daughter they were a little big around the ankle, she is very tiny. I bought one pair of the Robeez slippers last winter and she lived in them.

I just used the Robez soft shoes. They are soft but still warm. You can also buy them off ebay for less than you pay in the store.

I used to put these totes slipper socks on my daughter. There are treads on the bottom and they're thicker/warmer than regular socks.

My oldest was walking at nine-ten months. We have wood floors and I just put her in those thick socks with the grippies on the bottom. Make sure the grippies are very rubbery and grippy. The first pair I bought were cute, but not grippy and she would slide all over.

Many times she would run around barefoot too. She didn't care and it never seemed to make her sick or anything.

Tell me about it! I have a 13 month old who loves to play with her socks, so every chance she gets she pulls them off. I understand your predicament.
I found some soft soled shoes called Robeez that are awesome! The soles are sort of a soft suede and the rest of the shoe is soft, pliable leather. They have elastic around the top of the shoe so they are easy to slip on but so far, she hasn't figured out how to pull them off! Hoorah! They don't interfere with her walking either.
Anyway, they've been great and I definately recommend them. They retail for around $20, but their sizing allows them to fit for a long time. (She has a 6-12 month size and she still has ample room to grow, even with socks underneath.)
Good luck!

Robeez are great, however, I bought my little walker some slippers from One Step Ahead, velour, soft and has grips on the bottom of the feet. Ideal for your little girl who is just pulling herself up. Google One Step Ahead and you will find their web address. Enjoy!

I used (and still use) the soft bottom slippers with the zippers on the top. I usually find them at payless or target. They are fleece with soft soles and are lightweight. Great because they are washable too...

I felt the same way. We have all hardwood in our house and I didn't want my son who hadn't learned to walk yet to be a) cold and b) when he was learning to walk, didn't want him slipping all over the place.

We got a pair of Robeez (you can either buy them online or some local stores carry them - check the site, robeez.come, I think). A year later, they still fit, so they were well worth the money, and I think they were less than $30. They have a very helpful size chart . . .if you are on the cusp of 2 sizes, go bigger). They fit like a sock, they can't take them off, and they keep my son's feet warm (and they are cute!).

I hope this helps!

Hi, C.. Robeez (available at Babies R Us and Target) are great - they are soft-soled leather slippers, but can be worn outside too. Sort of like mocassins. There is another brand called Bobux that are like them, but I think more expensive. I have friends who like Pedipeds too.

Enjoy!

Hanna Andersson's Swedish Moccasins are AWESOME. I think they're so much cuter than Robeez and you can wash them w/o ruining them and you can water proof the leather bottoms so they can be worn outside. They can be pricey, but right now on their website, there are some that are only $10 and $15. There are several patterns, here's a link to the Xmas one:

good luck :)

Check out here: http://store.babycenter.com/product/code/6332.do?intcmp=S... They are bootie-slippers with elastic and a snap around the ankle. I have a pair of these and they are great for crawling around on a chilly day in the house or at night when wearing jammies with no feet.

old navy socks have gripper paint on the bottom.

Also, if you are crafty, try making your own.

Ohelene has a swedish and english blog with her own pattern,
and stardust shoes has a blog with her own pattern. Both are free tutorials. Keep in mind the built in seam allowance, and make sure your adobe reader is printing at 100% - not fit to page. You can get gripper fabric at joann's, it's by the vinyls.

I like the selection of flexible baby shoes on the end racks at target too, in addition to their leather shoes in the baby section.

Hannah Anderson makes a wonderful slipper sock for infants that has non-skid dots on the bottoms. Warm and cute for the winter. They have them at the stores, and online. Pedipeds are really cute also, though a bit pricey.

Robez are great for little ones who are starting to walk and can be used for slippers. Now they are pretty expensive but if you go to Wal-mart or Target (which I prefer best) they have a cheaper form of them there in the baby department for about $13. I think these are a must buy for new walkers.

Definitely get the Robeez..theya re worth every penny and are much better than the generics you can buy at Target. They can be machine washed and look new again every time. They will last for a very long time and be worn daily...look online for coupons to get a discount!!

Funny how things can change in a short 12 years...when my girls were babies there were no such things as robies and i hadn't heard of Hannah Anderson. So just thought I'd let you know that my girls survived on plain old little socks and bare feet. My first daughter started trying to walk at 10 months and that was January and the second was a bit earlier and that was June.

You're bound to keep the baby in a confined area anyway so the danger is nil. You'll be great and so will the babe.

They both survived fine! Good luck and don't worry!

I bought fleece slippers at Target in the shoe/slipper section. They have rubber bottoms. they slip off but i solved that by buying velcro strips at the store and wrapping around the top of them. They no longer fall off. Of course, if I can get a few minutes to myself, I plan to actually sew the velcro on to make it easier. I bought the velcro at Hanover Fabrics but I know they sell it at Target also. I cut it thin in width so it doesn't feel uncomfortable for her. I looked into Robeez becaue a friend loves them and the recommends on here but I just can't afford to spend $35 for a pair of shoes outgrown in a few months. Once she is actually walking outside, I will look into them again.
