Sling or Moby?

I had a moby wrap and never ended up using it b/c it is REALLY long. It would drag on the ground and i found it awkward to attempt different positions. My friend had a sling and loved it. It was easily portable and easy to use.

My DS HATED the sling until he could hold his head up and see the world around him.

The Moby is great but I think it takes a lot of time to feel comfortable with it. With 2 other kids, you're probably looking for something quicker than the Moby.

Try googling "Babywearing" meetings in your area. I know there's several here on Long Island. That way you could go and try out a few things to see what might work best for you.

I never used the moby wrap. With my 1st, I loved the sling, however I didn't like it with my second. The sling does not let you feel completely confident in using 2 hands- I always felt as if I needed one hand to support the baby, which didn't make life any easier keeping up with a toddler. I would recommend something that is completely "hands free." I used the Ergo since mine was 3.5 mo's old and still use it occasionally (he's now 16 mo's old!) and I cannot sing its praises loud enough. I was skeptical to spend 100 dollars on second child, but it was worth every single penny spent! I think it was a big reason why my toddler didn't have trouble adjusting to the new baby b/c I rarely had to make him wait for the baby b/c he was just always with us (kind of an extention of me) for quite a while. I had both a sling and a moby wrap, and I preferred the moby wrap for a few reasons. Once you get used to it, it only takes a minute to wrap and get on. The fabric is softer, and my son liked being upright, rather than in the cradled position of the sling. You also have a greater range of motion in your arms with the moby wrap. The sling prevents one arm from moving very much, which makes it difficult to fold laundry, or put away dishes.

LOVE my Moby! It is the one item that I said with my next pregnancy I would HAVE to have again. I recommend it to all new Mommies. You can make one cheaply (and therefore, have many different colors!) by buying five yards of jersey knit, cut it up the middle so that you have two pieces, and you have your wrap! No sewing required.

My first baby loved the sling...but the sling didn't love me! I've had back problems ever since. I have never used Moby but would consider since the sling was so unbalanced and cause me a lot of back pain. I love love love the ERGO carrier. You can get an infant insert and it is just a dream when baby gets older & you don't need the insert anymore and when you can wear it baby back pack style. Good luck!

I loved the Moby. I used it with my son because I did not know about it until he was 6 months old until he was 10 months old. I am using an Ergo and he is 18 months old. The Moby has a lot of fabric but you wrap it around and is a good fit definitely will keep your baby snug from the start. I have used a Baby Bjorn since he was born and a New Native carrier. As you can tell and my hubby states I am the Queen of Slings since I have been wearing him since he was born. I did not use a stroller until he was 10 months and I use the Ergo inly when I take him the NYC for my two trips a month with him. Anymore advice on them, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!

I loved my Moby. It is a pain to put on but if you get a color you like then you just leave it on like a cardigan. I have black. It is very comfortable and my baby loved it. I did not love the Baby Bjorn but my hubby liked it. We also had one of those fabric ines with the metal loops on the shoulders that you wear over one shoulder....hated it. I always felt like my daughter was going to fall out.

I have the Moby and like it. It is a pain to get on since it has a ton of fabric. I would not want to put it on in public because the fabic drags on the ground. My son LOVES being in the Moby because he feels swaddled and is very close to me. I have put it on at home and then taken walks outside and he stays nice and warm even in cold weather. He is only 2 1/2 months old so I just started him on facing out in the house and he seems to like that also. I have the bjorn and I also use it, but don't really love it. Although it is very easy to put on. I have the ergocarrier that I used with my first son and feel that it is the most comfortable one to wear since it provides support at the hips and not all on your shoulders (both the Moby and bjorn pull on your shoulders). However, I feel like he is still a little small for the ergo. Around 4+months he should fit better.

I love the Moby! For me it is the only carrier that is truly hands free and I can put baby in it and get things done around the house. My daughter is only 10 weeks old so I don't know how long I will be able to use it, but so far it has been great.
With my older daughter, I used the Baby Bjorn and the Ergo carrier so I'll probably go back to those if/when this baby gets too heavy for the Moby.
Neither of my kids have liked the slings and I always worry about them slipping out so I always feel like I need to keep one hand around them. Maybe that is just me.
I should add, if you are using the Moby outside, you will probably want to put it on at home and then just take the baby in and out of it as you need to. It takes a little more to put on and take off than slings and other baby carriers.

I would recommend the Moby. I love mine. My daughter feels like she's close to me and I feel like I'm holding her just I have my arms as well. Also I have larger breasts so the sling was uncomfortable for me. I would recommend going to your local store that sells them and ask for a quick lesson on how to put it on. I didn't start wearing mine until someone showed me how. I thought it looked complicated in the instruction book but it really isn't. In fact I bet there is a you tube instruction for it. Definitely go Moby! I don't know what I'd do without mine. Good luck!

Wraps tend to have a bigger learning curve than slings, but they are, for the most part, more comfortable. If you tend to have any back, shoulder or alignment problems I would suggest going for the Moby as it will distribute the baby's weight more evenly than the one shouldered slings will. But the sling is a very easy on/off when you just want to go in and out of places quickly.

For comfort and weight distribution, I loved my wrap (not a Moby, but similar), but I used my sling a lot for convenience and it was easier for me to use when nursing. When my daughter got bigger, I switched to a meitai for back carries (I have a lot of trouble with back carries using the wrap). And eventually invested in a structured carrier (mine was Becco, but Ergo is good too) when my daughter got heavier.

Moby! It takes a little bit of practice to get it tied correctly to start out, but it is very worth it. It is soooo comfortable and very easy to wash. My second was a March baby, my older was 3.5 in the summer after he was born...I actually wore my baby in the Moby as I walked around in the wading pool so my older one coudl enjoy water time. The baby was nice and covered from the sun, the Moby was easy to wash if it did get splashed on, or sunblock on it. I think slings can be great with slightly older kids (after they are sitting). I ended up using my sling for short errands because it was a bit easier to slip on and run into the post office, but for longer errands, the Moby was better because it distributes the baby's weight on you more evenly and as they get older they can face out, which makes trips around town, walks in the park, more interesting. I would not have been able to take my older son on so many outings without the help of the Moby. Plus, I did a lot of housework while my baby slept in the Moby. Don't get frustrated if it is a bit tricky at first...try to find someone who has one who can teach you in person, that is the easiest way to learn, but I didn't know anyone with one AND I am not particularly handy, but I was able to figure it out. I found the Moby took some time to wrap, but it felt more secure than a sling. Since I have neck pain from a car accident, I felt like the Moby distributed the weight well so there was no pressure on my neck. The baby can face you, face out, be vertical (which my daughter liked) lie down and you can breast feed discreetly. You still have to hold her when you squat or bend down. Once my daughter was learning to pick up her head, it was hard to keep it supported b/c the fabric would move or give (unless she was lying down.) I would use it again with a baby from 0-3 months. Now I use the Baby Bjorn, but I'm looking for one with more lumbar support. Hope that helps! Congrats!

Moby! I tried the sling at first and my daughter hated it.. It also hurt my neck after a little while. The Moby is great! It does not strain your back at all. You can get so much done with it as well. I know my daughter loved to be carried when she was little and to be on my chest. With the Moby it feels like you are holding them. They have the comfort of being right up against you. And then when they are a little older you can turn them around to face the front. Great for walks and other activities. They get to see what is going on around them and keep them occupied. Great for having other kids to take care of too!
