Sleeping in Early Pregnancy

Hey Moms,
I am about 7 weeks pregnant and am having the weirdest experience. I am already uncomfortable on my back. I feel short of breath, when I turn on my side I get tremendous relief and feel I can breathe and my belly feels better as well. I don't remember this my first time around. Has anyone been through this, any ideas what might cause it? I am pretty sure I am only 7wks bc I know when I ovulated, I had very light spotting around the implantation time and then showed positive for a preggy test about 8 days later. I took a couple before that time and they were negative. Anyway, any thoughts on this would be so greatly appreciated!

while the other posters have given you excellent advice I would not rule out the one asking about possibility of twins...the reason I say this is I was able to sleep on my back with my first pregnancy, but from very early on the only way I could get comfortable when pregnant with my twins was when I was on my side...

Good luck!!! and congratulations on your blessed event... ;-)

That actually is pretty normal. You're uterus has shifted and is weighing more than it did. When you lay on your back, it puts a lot of pressure on your spine, aorta... It is recommended that you sleep on your left side while you are pregnant, in order to not put pressure from your increasingly heavy uterus on anything important. So don't worry. I would recommend the book "What to Expect when You are Expecting". It is a very helpful guide, especially when you are feeling weird things (which happens a lot pregnant).

Just in case, I would mention it to your OB/GYN at your next appointment.

Hi J.,
If you have been checked by an MD you should be okay.
My OB/GYN told me that the second pregnancy is always
the toughest....even if you have three or ten pregnancies.
I would recommend for you to continue sleeping or just
resting on your left side. You will have good blood flow
and the baby gets better oxygen. When you lay on your back
especially towards the end of your pregnancy your baby
will not get enough oxygen.

Best wishes,
Elisa

J.,

Just curious, but have you had a sono to rule out twins?

Difference between first and second pregnancies? BIG!!

I didn't show for months with my first but EXPLODED within a month with my second. Body has memory and kicks into pregnancy gear instantly. You being uncomfortable this soon may just be an indication of that.

Best Wishes!
